I am playing a vanilla game. I just declared war on Cyrus. Now just 2 turns into the war my Heroic Epic city is facing angry citizens. The things is I not only got the War, what's it good for . I also got :mad:s for we won't fight against our brothers in the faith and we yearn to return to our motherland.

The thing is that city wasn't captured from anyone. I built it myself, in fact it was my second city. Also Cyrus isn't the same faith as me. He used to be, but has since converted to Hinduism (I'm Jewish). Are these bugs or is there something I don't understand about war weariness?

Did Hinduism spread to that city? Does it have some percentage of Persian culture?

I don't recall if I have Hinduism in my city. It's possible, I'll check. More than likely many of his cities do have Judaism, as I built the Temple of Solomon pretty early and it spread rather quickly. Is that enough to get the we won't fight our brothers in faith penalty or do you need to both have the same state religion?

Any city with the opponents religion will get that malus.

Vanilla and Warlords always seemed much more brutal with the war weariness. Play BTS.

The motherland one is odd. Is your city culture pressed by an AI. Second city shouldn't be although AIs will stupidly settle in your face, especially in vanilla.

I second that. War weariness in vanilla used to be at least as bad as figthing against the Statue of Zeus in BtS. Btw I think it also calculated culture in a different way. In vanilla I used to have ridiculous amounts of foreign culure even in my early cities, provided they bordered someone else.

There is some culture pressure. It's a continent map and I ended up on the smaller continent with 4 other AIs, so cities are pretty well packed in. Generally I've been winning the cultural border wars (two flipped cities so far) but I suppose Cyrus is creative, so that's a possibility.
