I just got the Warlords extension pack for CIV 4 and have problems with windows when launching the game.
I am on laptop with XP home, Radeon Mobility X700 and apparently all the recommended config features.
CIV 4 works fine. I have downloaded 1.61 patch + 2.08 patch for warlords.
Installation of warlords confirm success.

On launching of the game, I am able to see the loading window and then the programm stopped and an error window from Windows appears saying that warlords has caused serious error and that the program had to be stopped. On the same windows you have a link to inform Windows of the problem occurred. The error code is 0xc0000005.

I don't know where to start to try to solve the problem and any help would be VERY welcome ;) .

If you need further info on specs please let me know :D

The Warlords ini file should be here: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Games\Warlords.

Aha. I took a look at the screenshots... et voila! ~df394b.tmp. This file is related to copy protection... and so is your problem. I guess now that the reason for crashing is clear, the init.log is no longer needed.

Looking at the dxdiag, your graphics drivers are fairly old (3/23/2005). You don't mention graphic problems, perhaps it is not so important to update them.

Your dvd drive is TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632B. This could potentially be the root of your troubles. Check if there's perhaps a new firmware available for that drive. This could solve the problem.

Firaxis released (by mistake?) another version of the 2.08 patch which does not require DVD in drive. Perhaps you can find that somewhere. Alternatively, you could try some third-party modified executables (nocd). Do not ask where, this forum has rather strict rules concerning piracy.

Good luck.

Thanks for your answer.
Regarding copy protection, I am quite surprise as both civ4 and warlords games are genuine and were bought on a trusted internet merchant and received wrapped up.
I know that the graphics driver is a bit old but I don't beleive the error is related to graphics and I have no problem with running civ4
Regarding dvd driver, and because playing with civ4 and other games works fine, do you still think it can be due to dvd driver ?
2.08 patch is already installed as it was my first trial to solve the problem.
I bought my laptop back in May and I have tested the warlords game on another computer (older) where it works OK.
If you have anymore ideas to solve the problem ....
thanks again
