I just moved to warlord difficulty, and have been having problems, every time i start a game I always start by other civs, who then initiate communication and attack me, i've done this 4 times tonight. Twice i gave the ai the crap(resources/tech) it wanted and it still attacked and twice I didn't and it attacked, is there something I can do to avoid this?

Mkae sure you grab plenty of the surrounding land, whilst making sure that you are building some military. They are less likely to go after you if you have sa strong military.

When I start a game without scout abilities, I produce 4 warriors to explore. One or several will hit goodie huts with barbarians and become elite units. One of these guys will attack the first civ I come to... be sneaky and don't attack anything other than another warrior in a city. They will normally make peace before they attack. You must hurt your neighbours early.
To get a high score in Civ 3 you must attack you weaker neighbours.
I used to be a "builder" going for all the cultural stuff but I got a cultural victory of 100,000 points by 1700 AD with only 4,000 pts.
I'm trying other stuff now that excludes what civiization is about.
War is rewarded, culture is thwarted

"Only"...!?

I say only because posted scores are much higher in HOF HQ.
I can't sere how I can get a higher score by being a passive builder of civilization advances. I can get almost every wonder, every improvement but I can't go higher without discarding temples et al. to prevent cultural victory at 100,000.:egypt:
I'm now trying a stab'em in the back approach like the AI uses... you know those polite guys who won't leave your territory until you remind them again, and again... :egypt:

Hi Jamesmor

The AI respects numbers and I think they even count your workers as units for this purpose.

By having more units the AI is much less likely to attack you. I played a peaceful game at Regent and no AI player attacked me just by having a reasonable size army. But the best advice is to go for an early war.

Cheers

The most important factor in score, by far, is difficulty level. If you're getting almost every wonder, move up to the next difficulty level. I think you'll find that a medicore game at the next higher level generates a higher score than a great game at the next lower level.

BTW, the HOF scores are (generally speaking) extraordinary scores -- that's why they're in the Hall of Fame! :)
