Warlords patch

Fantastic. All patched up, and now the game crashes when loading any mod. I guess they figured nobody really likes playing mods. Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything. Twice.

Mods have been be remodded to support the new patch, I believe is how it works.

Exactly....all mods that change the SDK will need reworked....

Anybody playing a mod should be checking with their mod creator before applying the Warlords Patch :)

I was using the ingame patcher, got to 66% and then the connection reset... back to the start. Wah! So i am downloading it from the 2k site which fortunately supports resumed downloads. Mind you it needed to; the connection kept stop/starting. I am guessing they are really getting hammered.

Ah well, When it's done i'll try to get huge maps working for unmodded warlords to see if i can get a memory allocation failure; i'll have to kill all graphics etc to do it though, which is a pain as it then seems very blurry to my poor :old: eyes.

Hello,

I downloaded the patch already yesterday, it works amazing. Blakes Algorithms for city founding are just .... outstanding.

I sincerely hope he keeps on developing the city founding engine and in general the AI.

when i started a mew game with isabella, i didnt get the new expansive bonus. yes i downloaded it from the front page where thunderfall posted it

Someone posted a very similar problem over at Apolyton (the cheaper workers didn't come into effect). If you have anything in your custom assets folder you may need to empty it and redo everthing that was in there. Alexman gave the reason for this (and the reason for the failure at Apolyton).

What have you seen that has changed?

Maybe that mods need updating, you know?

Hoping someone can answer a question. I followed the instructions earlier to fix the sound bug for SAM Infantry and the patch says that it addresses that same problem. Will I have a conflict if I install the patch?

No
Patch overwrites that file you changed. If you copied it into CustomAssets you can delete it.

The AI will build cities on resources was the most noticable thing for me.
So you can't see it easily  . Or, if you go on war with them, you can't cut resources without take over or raze the city, and you need to cut all the ways from city.

Regards,
Arto.

Hi Chode,

Still on your "crusade", I see? Keep it up!

The best thing I've noticed is that Ai and especially Barb cities are now built in much more sensible places...my first game (huge / monarch / marathon) I'm up to 17 cities and half of them are Barb built (thats if you count Saladin as a Barb too :)) (and N.B. I don't have COL or Currency or a religion yet, even as Otto, this will test my city spam strategy to the hilt...)

Also they don't seem so hellbent on building 3 tiles away from your own established cities, when the resource they are aiming for is yours now, has been for ages, and for practical purposes always will be. It no longers seems to just see some Silk (for example) and build a city with no chance of ever having it (as it belongs to someone else as said above). This also lessens early "our close borders" penalties.

One thing I HAVEN'T seen (which was promised) is Barb spearmen. None whatsoever, and believe me I've already defeated literally over a hundred barbs.

I'm not sure still about the promised AI using slavery effectively. I approached one of Saladin's cities with 5 well promoted chariots, he had only 1 basic archer (obviously suffering from the hideous amounts of barbs I was too), and even though the city was size 4, he didn't whip out another defender, which to me is by far the best time to whip, as in there's no way to whip when you've lost the city, which of course he did ;)

Anyways, just some early comments on 2.08.

Is it confirmed that the patch definately won't load any pre-patch games?
So everyone that has Pitboss and PBEM games going will need to keep a pre-patch copy of the warlords folder to run all those games?

If this is true (which so far I'm assuming it is), I find it highly annoying that they made yet another patch that can't convert old save files.

As with previous Civ4 patches, you can load pre-patch saves unless you have either clicked the "Lock modified assets" option, or you have an admin password.

If you have an admin password, you are prevented from loading save files with a different checksum than the python and XML files on your computer. This is by design (to prevent cheating). In this case you just need to clear that password before upgrading, and you will be able to load the save. You can then re-enter the admin password.

As for barbarian spearmen and galleys, it's true that it didn't make it into the patch. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply and clarification Alexman. I had forgotten that had been stated previously, and I was going off comments made in various other threads about people not being able to load the saves, since I hadn't personally tried it yet.

I've also seen a few posts about there being a problem with the pitboss with the new patch. Is that true, or are they just having the problem with the locked modified assets/admin password?

Also, if Lock Modified Assets was checked, does the Admin then have the ability to uncheck it so that the game can be loaded?

Or is there something else that needs to be done so that it can be loaded?

I don't see Spearmen mentioned here. Nor Horse Archer.
So good question is why they don't appear?
