Deep inside...
Hello,

I'm experiencing a recurring crash. The message says it is a problem with cvgamecore.dll, everytime, and the same offset. It has happened before, but I managed to bypass it deleting workers (?). I am no programmer, but it seems to me that something is utterly wrong with the code.

I can't attach the savegame because it is some 750k big, and the zip is 650k. What can I do to show it to you?

It's very very frustrating. I am a civ fan since the first one, civ4 is by fat the best, but problems like this makes me wonder: the end of an era?

Regards,

If you still have the save, you can upload it using the link "Upload File" at the bottom of the page.

Thank you for the save.
This is a known bug and will be fixed for the patch.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi alex,

thanks for looking at it! I was starting to think it was something related to my hardware, which I resisted to believe because everything else runs fine, including my beloved Collector's Edition of Civ4.

Now, out of plain curiosity: two questions:

1. My nice germans game is stuck now were you saw it. I asume the game is lost, or will the patch be savegame compatible?

2. Just to know it: what is the bug? What is causing the game to crash at that point? Why could I "save" earlier savegames by deleting workers (enemies)? Could you please explain to this curious fan?

regards to the team, and congrats for a hell of a game series!

I forgot the 3rd question :)

Any timeframe for the patch?

thanks

You should be able to continue this game after the patch, but it is still unknown when this will be. I would imagine within a month, but don't quote me on it...

ok, so next question:

is this a bug that appears in every game? I ask because I don't want to start another game, spend hours and then find the same paralizing bug.

Is it a common bug? Can I do something to try to avoid it?

No, it's not too common. It happens when a city with both ground and naval units flips. A good way to avoid this particular bug is to play with culture flips off.

strange... how come I could continue the game after the crash appeared the first time by deleting american workers?

can I reset cultural flips in a saved game? I asume I can't, but I prefer to ask.

Does this happen with any city (including AI), or only with cities related to me (flipping from or to me)?

regards,

By deleting the worker, you probably changed the random number sequence and the city did not flip.

No, you can't reset cultural flips once you have started the game (unless you know how to edit the save file).

Yes, it affects all flips, even AI-to-AI flips (as in your save), provided the city that flipped has a ship loaded with troops.

thank you! and nice idea, to learn how to edit save files... where can I Learn that? I tried with the simplistic notepad, but it isn't an ASCII file, so obviously I need something else.

Worldbuilder doesn't seem to do it either... SDK?

By the way, it's very refreshing to have such kind of support... makes you even forget about the bugs... ;) well, not really, but makes you more "forgiving"... :))

I have the same problem: cmgamecore.dll is crashing, but it's the first turn, so no cultural flipping occured yet.

I got this exact same bug. Click to end a turn and the game crashes. I went back several turns using one of the auto-save files and at the exact same turn the game crashes. Reboot the computer, play, get to that turn, game crashes.

Change what I'm doing, game crashes. You get the point. Anyone know whether this will be addressed? I find it frustrating that this build is named "Final Release" yet I can't finish a game??

P.S. - my computer has 1GB of RAM and a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor as well as an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 card, so the game should work for me.

File posted here for any who would like to take a look...
