For this WC FIFA said the teams had to bumit the list of players selected almost a month before the tournament kick-off. All the teams are therfore known for more than a week already. But similarly ita was said that any injured player can be replaced until 24 hours before the WC, so what we have in the various teams in that regard, are a series of players that are injured or recovering from injurees and with doubftful fitness. Otoh, there are always players that get injured in the preparation weeks and have to be replaced. This thread is to keep the record of the players that might have to be replaced, and for their eventual replacements in the selection.

At the moment some of the players with problems that come to my mind are:

- Michel Salgado (Spain): recently injured in training camp, will be evaluated in a couple of days, and might have to leave after that if the seriousness of the injuree is confirmed.

- Wayne Rooney (England): injured for a few weeks already, afaik, will be evaluated this week, and the result of the exam might indicate if he has a chance or not of going to Germany.

- Claudio Reyna (USA): had a problematic season in terms of physical condition and was recovering for the WC, but suffered a knee injuree in a friendly yesterday. I do not know what's the status. Maybe someone else can give better informations (that's the point of the thread).

- I believe there was already a substitution in the australian camp, ain't that right classical hero? Can you or someone else give more details?

A number of backup players have been injured with Phil Neville replacing the West Ham midfielder and Dawson replacing Young.

That player you are refering to is Tony Vidmar. He has an irregular heart beat and as a result doctors have warned him that should he play his life would be in jeapordy, so as anyone would do, he stopped playing. He will have surgery soon to correct it but we will have to see if he is able to play after this, but this is his only realistic chance of playing in the world cup, so it is one of the hard luck stories of the tournament.

More Australian injuries. We also have Harry Kewell missing from the training camp in Melborne, just before we face Grece in the send of to the World cup. In that game we will be missing Tim Cahill, who did his knee towards the end of the season, and John Aloisi will be missing with a foot injury, but hopefully they wil be back in time for the next game, which will be against Holand.

yep, if Vonlanthen doesn't recover till the start of the WC he'll probably be replaced by Hakan Yakin.

I don't know which part of that message is the worse part :/

Apparently Reyna is alright.

- Del Horno is in dount for Spain. Otoh, Salgado's news are better.

- Rooney will miss at least the group games. Personal opinion: let the man recover at home, forget all about it, and bring someone else. Defoe? Bent?

- Bruno Vale of Portugal suffered an injuree in yesterday's game of the U21 EC and is also in doubt for the WC. He is the 3rd goalie.

While walking on yesterday, Fabien Barthez had a slight pain at the left calf. As a result, he hasn't participated to the ride of the French team in the mountains. Physicians have found absolutely nothing on his left calf and obviously Barthez isn't worried but told that, "unfortunately", he may miss the pre-WC friendlies (We never know you know... ;) ). However, Barthez has guaranteed he will be 100% fit once the real thing will begin. :mischief:

For the little story, at the last game, France vs Slovakia, the whole stadium has whistled Fabien Barthez, obviously disageeing with the coach who selected him as the first goalie of the French team.

Gregg Berhalter replaces injured Cory Gibbs in the USA defence.

I've been watching the seleção training in Weggis and one thing that I and everybody else noticed is that Ronaldo is in a terrible physical shape. It is very contrasting to see him play with the rest of the team. I don't expect much from him this WC.

Of course fans remember that he was in even worse shape in 2002, but I think that doing what he did back then now seems very far-fetched.

Bruno Vale (mentioned in a post above) is indeed out of the WC and was replaced by Paulo Santos of Sp. Braga as the 3rd goalie of the portuguese squad.

I also heard that the only player from Montenegro (forgot his name) in the Serbia-Montenegro team is injured and was replaced by... a Serb- :D I guess Serbia won't miss Montenegro much in the future, football-wise.

Ballack still injured and set to miss the next test match against Japan, too.

Robert Huth was injured yesterday, too, but to the relief of Germany's opponents it doesn't seem to be severe. ;)

Robert huth has the genes of a buffalo. He has to be hit twice as hard to get injured. Ballack, as spielmeister, should instruct Kahn to make himself useful and do it.

Coach Aragonés of Spain has told Capdevilla to be ready in case Del Horno needs to be replaced.
