How come I get this from an AI when trying to trade techs with him when I mouse over one of his 'red' techs that are displayed. They are usually a ton of techs ahead of me, I mean WTH.

Why do they fear I'm becoming too advanced when they are so far ahead of me.

Well, you do come from "The Land of Sky Blue Waters" sabo. :goodjob:

The remark 'we're afraid you're becoming too advanced' is quite confusing. It actually means 'you have acquired too many technologies through tech trading and we don't like that'.

In civilization 4, you can get a limited amount of technologies through tech trading and after that you get the complaint 'we're afraid you're becoming too advanced'. This limitation is also present in AI-AI technology trades.

The limitation is not the same for every AI leader, some are more willing to trade technologies than others. The leaders will also slowly forget that they traded technologies with you and thus will trade with you again after a number of turns. This technology trading limitation is not used when you have friendly relations with an AI civilisation or when 2 AI leaders have friendly relations with one another.

The human player can trade as many technologies to the AI as he wants to. He is not subject to a similar limitation.

The link is broken and I can't quickly find the thread that you're referring to.

I can imagine that there are some interesting observations to be made about the subject. For instance, the time it takes before the AI forgets some of your tech trades (I believe, it is something like 5% chance per turn that they forget one of your tech trades) and which leaders are more likely to trade than others and maybe some other observations like difficulty level dependency of tech trades. It could be interesting to some readers of this thread. I vaguely recall reading such a thread once, so I'm not that interested anymore, but if someone hasn't read it then it could surely be interesting.

Could you restore the link? :)
