Weaker iron units?

It seems to me that almost all units based on having the resource iron is weaker in Conquests then in PTW.

Before the swordsman and knights ruled the world, but now they (and med.inf.) are having trouble even killing sperman and archers! Now Longbowmen is a better choice then knights?! Why build iron units any more??

Anyone else that feels that something is wrong with iron?

I'm not sure if iron units are weaker but I've not had *too* much trouble using them against spearmen in most situations. I used to get frustrated at the amount that I would lose until it occured to me to build catapults en masse... like, about 6 or 7 total. Some of those bombardments will hit and soften your opponent, plus it's a good way to find out how many units are guarding the city you are trying to claim as your own.

I think spearman gets a deffensive bonus against mounted units OR unless you guys try to attack a Population 6+ City

Perhaps some of the adjustments and new early-game units have somewhat weakened the iron units in the scheme of things. Like:

Archers and Longbows now have first defensive fire, so they're stronger when Swords are attacking them.

Some units now have an extra strength point, like the Enkidu Warrior, so they're harder to beat.

Enslaving units like the Mayan Javelin Thrower, are cooler and more fun than the same old iron units. :)

>-TerraHero- I figured oppressing a man who refuses to fight is too easy...

I don't find that iron units are any weaker. I took over an entire continent with Swordsman and MDI, and I didn't notice any difference than before.

tomart109, I guess you're right. Maybe it isn't the swordsmen that are weaker, but the opposition that are stronger! (in the case of archers etc)

But still it feels like I have to use a larger bunch of swordsmen (or knights) to defeat the same numer of spearmen/pikemen!

And do some units have bonuses when fighting riding units (horsmen, knights etc)?

Changes made to the Combat system make the outcome less predictable. This tends to favour the weaker units and results in more spearmen surviving attacks by swordsmen etc.

There were no changes made to the combat system in C3C. There was a great deal of discussion regarding a proposed change that was to be released in patch 1.10, but it was postponed, and may or may not be added later. As of now, the combat system in C3C is the same as previous versions.

Enslave is overpowered i think

Explain why you think this. I feel it is fine as is. There is only a 1/3 chance of it working, the javelins attack power is only 2, not very strong, and no 0 range bombard like standard archer. Plus the slaves although free work very slowly.
