The Humble Store has started its Winter Sale. Highlight today is probably EU4 at 75% off for $10 (I believe the lowest its been).

Yep, and you were only allowed to buy one copy, too. I had to change my IP and paying method just to get a second copy for someone else. Stupid system.

Darn it. :( Maybe Steam will have something nice for EU4 during the Winter Sale.

Amazon has started its Digital Holiday Sale. EU4 is 75% off there if you missed it (also the Digital EXTREME Edition).

All purchases from the digital game store until the end of the year receive a $5 credit for Editor's Choice games in January, even if the purchase is less than $5. Last year the Editor's Choice games had a pretty decent selection.

And a new Snow Globe minigame. Ugh, maybe it will turn out better than the Coal, but I doubt it.

How does buying games from Amazon work? Do they just supply Steam Keys? Or do they have their own "service" similar to Steam?

    thanks

It depends on the game. For the most part, they usually have Steam keys. You can check on the game's store page, under the name it will usually say "DRM: <drm>". If its listed as Steam, it will have redeem a Steam key. Some games have Origin keys instead, and others just redeem directly to an Origin account, if you have one linked (I believe those games are labelled "Instant Access").

The other way to check is to look at the download size. Keys will have a very small download size of a few kb, as it really just downloads an html page with the code on it.

Otherwise, you can go to your Game and Software Library, where it has a list of all the games you've purchased. You can view the keys from there (if applicable). Some games are sold directly from Amazon and you can download the software downloader on the Game and Software Library page; it works similarly to Gamersgate's downloader.

Picked up City Life 2008, Tropico 3, and Super Sanctum TD from the Steam Sale. Didn't pay a dime over $8. :)

If you manage to legally buy a game from amazon.com while not living in the US, please tell us of your ways. Last time I looked, Canadian borders are closed to game imports from amazon.

In general you should not buy things during the sales unless they are on a daily deal, flash sale, or it is the last day. Otherwise you may overpay.

This has been a very disappointing sale so far, less than half of the games have been either worth getting or even had good discounts.

A sale that is disappointing to you is wonderful for your wallet. :p

But I agree. Most of the deep discounts so far are for games I already have, or don't want, but there are a few gold nuggets in there such as Monaco.

The flash sales are pretty bad though.
