Yeah the steam main page never updates correctly the first hour or so after deals are posted. Click on the titles for the correct pricing.

Anyway, steam sale seemed a bit disappointing like a major focus on triple A titles (x-com, dishonored, bioshock, batman etc all seen multiple times), while indie and smaller games didn't have as large discounts or had to win the community vote. But I suspect I also feel this way because I own pretty much every cool title I desire at this point like when dragon age origins and mass effect 2 were on sale, and civ5 and so forth.

In the end I got Braid, Super hexagon for 29 cents (lol just can't say no to a 29 cent game!), Sword of the stars the pit and giana sisters twisted dreams all under 2 bucks. Also got lego lord of the rings, deadlight and Spelunky.

Deadlight is pretty cool thus far, though gameplay is a bit shallow (action platformer, typical jump from platform to platform stuff) but the story is just intriguing enough to keep me going and the environment looks amazing.

You can when it doesn't resemble a game in any way, shape or form.

What happened to the "I got a new game" thread? The winter sale was ok, but I didn't spend a whole lot. I got the following:

    Civ 5: Brave New World
    Far Cry 3
    Spelunky
    Papers, Please
    Walking Dead: 400 Days
    Endless Space: Disharmony

I got Counterstrike: Global Offensive, the new Wargame game (they're awful at naming), Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition, and Skryim. A rather subdued winter sale for me this year. I did refrain from buying Enemy Within to save money.

I got the following in the Winter Sale

XCOM: EU (not the expansion though, I'll wait till the Summer Sale for that one)
    Torchlight 2
    Universe Sandbox
    C&C: Red Alert 3
    Skyrim Legendary Edition
    Anno 2070 Complete
    Heroes VI Complete
    Tropico 4
    Portal II
Sanctum II Season Pass (I liked the base game after getting it from Humble Bundle)

All in all it cost on paper $80, in practice after all of the Trading Cards and TF2 hats I've sold it cost $45.

    Lets see, I got:

    Metro Last Light
    Batman Arkham Asylum/City
    FTL
    Assassin's Creed Revelations
    Assassin's Creed 3
    Rising Storm
    The Stanley Parable

Metro and Batman were from Amazon.

I'd say a decent sale overall, although the deals could have been much better for a lot of games.

I have either received or bought:

Mass Effect Collection (runs rather poorly)
Sim City 4 Deluxe (I'm terrible at it)
    City Life 2008 (lags)
    Tropico 3 (doesn't work)
Out of the Park Baseball 14 (awesome, just like Football Manager)
    Morrowind (don't like it)
    Oblivion (doesn't work)
Cook, Serve, Delicious! (glorified flash game essentially)
Dungeon Defenders (I have 2 extra keys for this, by the way)
NBA 2K13 (runs poorly and sucks)

I did not spend a cent over $50 however, so even with the bad results I think it's worth it, especially as some of the games were bad/didn't work only because my laptop sucks.

I spent about 12$, the least I've ever spent in a christmas sale. Congrats on your unimpressive deals Steam. There are many games I'm still waiting to buy because I find the 25-50% range of sales to be unworthy of a christmas sale. I babble about this all the time, but discounts were deeper on new-ish games in the early days of Steam sales. Most games on deep discount these days I already own.

Also, I got three items in my inventory this morning. Thanks Steam.

I think with sales twice a year (not to mention the occasional good deal in-between sales), and with the backlog of good, older games having been largely gobbled up at this point...

We're simply not going to see amazing sales like we used to.

Nonetheless, for twenty five bucks I got:

Borderlands 2 Game of the Year
    World of Goo
    Super Hexagon
    Gnomoria
    7 Grand Steps
    Brutal Legend

That's still not bad. Maybe we're just getting jaded.

Steam doesn't set the prices, the publishers do.

Get ready to spend your entire weekend searching for the best weapon config to destroy the rebel mothership! Amazing game.

I skipped a bunch of titles I would like to try like borderlands, xcom, farcry 3 simply cus whenever I buy games for $10 they end up going on summer sale for $5 when I haven't had time to finish them yet so what's the point of buying now? Perfect example, bought dark souls for ~10 last spring time ish and now it's like $6. Bought witcher 2 for 7.50 and next month it was on sale for 5. So I pretty much don't spend more than $5 unless I really want to download the game and play it that instant cus price only goes down more later. I have a feeling xcom will be $5 this summer.

I remember reading this indeed. It only sort of changes the culprit in the story.

I'm sure they just try to find a supply/demand curve where price X nets Y sales for maximum profit cus with digital distribution and the game already developed and advertised any online digital sale is free money. If people are still willing to pay $10 for x-com enemy unknown for example then there's no reason for them to sell it for $5.

What Malachi said is probably quite true and other retailers do similar discounts so there is less of a wow factor when there is a big discount.

Although steam has the ability to encourage publishers to set a particular price as they need a certain number of games on sale.
