I have heard that spreading corporations among your own cities decreases your income. However I got the corporation that turns coal into aluminum and have been spreading that in my cities and I've noticed that every time I do the amount of profit I get each turn goes UP 1 or two for every city I spread it to. What is going on?
(PS: my plan was to spread the aluminum making corporation among every city in my civ and then stick the one corporation that turn aluminum into hammers in all of my production cities because from what I understand, the aluminum resource stacks meaning that you can use that to add huge amounts of hammers to your production cities. I was then going to go for space race because Monty, Alex, and Ragnor are all really strong militarily and there is no way I can conquer them.

Although each time you found a corp branch it costs you a direct payment and maintenance fees per turn, your headquarter city gains +4 :gold: per turn. This can be amplified with :gold: modifier buildings, usually the market, grocer, bank and wall street. Combined with Free Market to reduce corp maintenance further, a courthouse in every branch city and a forbidden palace, it's quite feasible to make founding corporations profitable.

Also, founding corporations in other civ's boundaries will give you I believe +12 :gold: per turn, without maintenance costs (those are paid by the civ you founded it in). This is a great way to boost the amount of :gold: you get from your wall street/headquarter city.

Your profits can look a bit better than they really are, because the upkeep of the executive disappears when you found a corporation.

It sounds like you are using corporations correctly with the HQ in your Wall Street City and putting it into cities with courthouses. Corporations don't have to lose money. PaperbagHobo is right, you can get even more gold spreading it to other Civs. That's dangerous, however, if they can use the Aluminum they get.

BTW, I love C.S. Lewis!!!

Thanks, I just realized the other factor that is contributing to me turning a profit, I only have one coal resource. Because the cost of a corporation is directly effected by how many resources you have, this is contributing to my profits.

I generally won't spread either mining inc. or sushi into foreign civs, except in specific occasions where I don't think it'll help them become a threat. Generally I'll spread a less effective corp to foreign civs, like cereal mills/creative constructions.

What about creative? Is that ok?

unless the target is likely to win by culture and/or will put alot of pressure on your boarders it's fine to spread creative constructions.

afaik the AI won't trade resources it can use for it's own corps, so be aware of that if you spread sushi and mining - trading more resources will give you more than spreading the corp usually.
