I was changing the Leader Names in CIV4GameTextInfos_objects.xml and I had renamed the original file to origCIV4GameTextInfos_objects.xml and just left it in the folder. But my changes were not showing up in the game. Finally I tried moving the original file to another folder and then my changes appeared.
So, for some reason, just changing the filename was not enough and I had to remove the original file altogether.
