Weird Vassal glitch

Not sure weather to call it a bug, glitch or just bad design but I will try to write a short summary of the event.

So, I was coming to the conclusion that apart from my own Persian empire, I was stuck with the Native American, Ottoman, and Atzec civilizations on the continent. I discovered Judaism and managed to convert both the Ottoman and the Native American. The Atzecs however founded Hinduism, and boy were they an agressive bunch.

The Atzecs declared war on me for no apparent reason and I did the best I could to fight them off, later to manage a peace treaty by giving them 2 technologies. Apparantly they had to keep their war machine running and so they invaded my friends the Native American. By chance I had one unit on NA territory who saw the Atzecs brute forces lining up to crush NA. It was my chance to strike back aswell as to help my friends in need, so on the other side of the continent I lined up my army only waiting for the "declare war" to cool off so I could make redemption on the Atzecs having all their forces at safe distance.

The moment had come, I declared war on the Atzec empire and moved in on their territory. At this point i think i was +12 with the NA (12 greens and 0 red). Apparantly at the same turn the Atzec captured the NA main city and they were forced to capitalize to the hands of the Atzec making them a vassal state. *Trumpet sound* *crashing noice* THE NATIVE AMERICAN DECLARES WAR ON YOU vassal state of yadda yadda. WTH??

So in the same turn, If i recall correctly I went from +12 rating with them, they were like my super buddy forever to this crap. ANyone else had the same experience. I wish i could code Python to avoid capitalized Vassal states to declare war on you like this. Perhaps give it a cooldown of 2-3 turns before it activates.

Fortunately none of the NA forces ever got to my territory (eventhough we bordered) and I managed to take one Atzec city before making peace

i don't know what you are looking for here. if you are at war with someone and they take a vessal, that vessal will also be at war with you. thats one of the reasons they put vessals in the game. there is nothing you can really do about it, other then PROTECT YOUR FRIENDS or they will be turned against you.

Thanks but the problem was:

I was in peace with both Atzec and NA.

Atzec was in a war with NA.

I was über-buddy with NA and hated by the Atzec.

I wanted to save NA and get back on Atzec.

At the same turn as I declare war on Atzec, Atzec captures NA capital and make them their vassal.

Result: My best friend NA declares war on me from automatic vassal state rules.

The "bug" is that this is messed up.

What choice did they have ? Refuse to capitulate and let them self be destoyed ?

You could have offered the NA to become your Vassal peacefully instead of capitulating to the Aztec, so you would protect them - if you were significantly more powerfull, they might have accepted this....

The way it went, NA was forced to capitualte to the Aztec - they lost the war, capitulated and are not a free state anymore - who they like or don't like does not matter anymore.

The "bug" is that this is messed up.

It's not a bug, it's how it's designed to work. If you didn't want to take the risk of having the NA turn on you, you should not have attacked Monty in the first place. Consider it karma for trying to advantage of a situation. Your plan just backfired, that doesn't mean the game is bugged. Vassal states have no say in who they are at war with, they always side with their masters. That's just the way it is. There'd be no point in having vassals in the game if it were otherwise.

It is the rule: the vassal adopts peace/war relationships of the master. I would of helped to defend NA city.
BTW:Sitting Bull was beat -OMG!!!
