How does this relate to some CiV general Discussion?
Don't worry, our sun can't fry us until it gets into the red giant stages. Plenty more years of Civ enjoyment to come, provided something else bad doesn't happen.
Followers of the New-Age interpretation of Mayan eschatology believe that sun-flares are civilization-killers. It is claimed that the next cycle of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) will start in 2012. "Will sun storms destroy civilization?" Little do they know that Jon Shafer has already taken care of that.
Not true. If the sun decides to have a really huge flare up, one so large we haven't seen in our recorded history, the human race (not to mention Civ players) are tits up.
Which isn't likely within the next few billion years because our sun is stable.
But most of the time the flare up ends with a spectacular visual festival
