I find it very ironic. They protest at the funerals of "fag-enablers," all the while thanking God for "free-speech-enablers."
Well...
1. I hate these people and if they were at a funeral for someone who was close to me someone would end up getting hurt. If they had police protection that somebody would probably be me, but someone would get hurt.
2. If they actually broke any laws I hope they pay the maximum amounts for every one of them.
3. If they were not breaking any laws then free speech should and does protect them. I'm not willing to bend freedom of speech to send them tro jail as much as I would like them to rot in Siberia. That would make us little better than them.

Well... thank god I don't live near these people. A least in New York we don't have people who will go to the extremes the Westburo church does go to in advocating sick and demented beliefs.
When I first heard about this group (on a milblog), it was said that a major reason they act as they do at funerals is to provoke people to violence in order to provide the basis for a lawsuit.
I don't know if that's true or not... I think it's fairly plausible, though.
The actions of Phelps & co. prompted the formation of the Patriot Guard Riders, motorcycle enthusiasts who attend funerals of fallen servicemembers (with the family's approval) and stand between the mourners and the protestors.
Constitutional rights aren't very secure if we only support them when they protect popular causes.
But that said, if courts have found "free speech zones" (and thus "non-free-speech zones") around political conventions and elected officials' speeches to not conflict with the First Amendment, I can't imagine how creating a similar law permitting the same for funerals and burials would be unconstitutional.

Fight fire with fire I always say. Well not really, but I'll say it now. The people sickened by this cowardly act should get together and protest, name call and anything and everything else allowable by the law outside of this "church."
Follow the members around and harrass them in a legal sense like the paprazi do to stars. Take the "free speech" these people are hiding behind and turn it around against them. Do what the investigative journalists do from the nightly news and instigate these people into starting violence. Keep pushing cameras in their face and asking questions meant to irritate.

When people like this can laugh and cheer at a death, any death, and prevent mourners from having a memorial service, they forfeit their right to acknowledgment of shared humanity. They are entitled to their opinions, and beliefs, but not entitled to disrupt a private memorial service. More and more laws are being passed nationwide to make this kind of free speech illegal. I once agreed with Voltaire about one's right to free speech. This is just too extreme....
Everyone here has lost a loved one, most likely. What if some gang of ignorant barbarians were at their funeral screaming about how god hates your loved one, he died because Americans condone gays etc...

The only good thing to come from the increased exposure that this inbred family (they have virtually no membership outside their own family ranks) gets is that people can know they aren't representative of Christianity at large.
Even hardcore bible-thumpers from the deep south who are somewhat sympathetic to the anti-gay cause will have nothing to do with them.

Yes and that limit used to be common sence and courtesy but those are seemingly gone now and we actually have to enact laws to stop people from picketing at funerals.

Every time I read anything involving this church, I die more and more inside. they're a hate group. list their members as registered sex offenders. List the group as a terrorist organization. do WHATEVER it takes to stop this abhorrent practice
