What are they saying!?

At some point mid game when you double click on a city to open its information screen, there is a new audio file played. To *me* it sounds like:

Person one: "Is this it?"
Person two: "Yeah, I guess so"
And lets not forget the sound of what i imagine is a horse drawn carriage rolling over a paved stone road.

Is that what they are really saying? Why? Its like they are mocking my cities.

After I listened to it a few times, it sounds like their saying:

Person 1: Lemme see it.
Person 2: This sow.

So Person 1 is somebody interested in pigs (butcher, doctor, farmer), and Person 2 owns said pig. At least, that's what I hear.

Or some variation of that path. The file is called: CityMiddleSmallBed.

I always found the first person incomprehensible and perceived the second as saying "(Is) this so?". But with utterances so unclear, and all the background noises, and no specific context information available, I don't think it's possible to answer that question without doing a rather laborious technical analysis.

The reason for this is that our mind actively influences what we hear (or think to be hearing). A number of experiments have proven this. For example, you record an utterance of a word, edit this recording and replace a sound with some other sound, and people listing to the edited piece are still absolutely convinced that they hear the sound that was taken out (it depends a bit on which sounds you change, but the pattern is pretty stable). We are simply unable of listening to unclear language sounds objectively, our mind doesn't work this way.

So, the only way of getting a definite answer to your question would be to isolate the utterance, isolate the individual sounds on an oscillator, and match those patterns with actual language sounds. Probably too much work. Or you could try to find the email address of the guy who created the Civ4 ambience sounds and ask him.

if you play the other ambient sound files, they are all unintelligible. seems like it was done intentionally.

also, sounds like the sounds are reversed in some cases. so even if they are talking, it's difficult to discern.

I don't know, but in the past I've found that sound so annoying that I specifically and deliberately removed it.

It's funny, the anarchy noise seems to say something like:
*mumble, mumble* "yeah!" "yeah!" "yeah!" "yeah!" *mumble, mumble*
"bull***t!"
"bull***t is right!"

Sounds really clear to me *shrugs*

Apparently, assets/sounds/soundtrack/modern/ThePeopleAreHeroes.mp3 is not nonsense at all. Sadly, all I ever picked out on my own was "the people are the hero's" which is what the mp3 is titled... so, I looked it up. Here's the full lyrics:
