As the topic says, what unit from the earlier Civilizations do you miss the most. Either by graphic or general use.

Mine is the Alpine Troop from Civ II, awesome for defending those hilled areas.

The Caravan from Civ II, that you could establish trade routes with, (the help build wonder was overpowered, but still)

And last, the Flak from Civ3 Conquests was nice too.

the caravans were great, also, being able to get a settler to join a city was helpful

Well, having a look at Civ2, there aren't any units I think need to be brought to Civ4 that aren't already. Civ4's nuke is far better than Civ2, do you remember trying to send your nuke, with 16 moves, through enemy territory to an enemy city, whilst abiding by crazy zones of control (it's a nuke for goodness sake) and finding all the cities you try to attack show a message saying the SDI Defense has thwarted it - and your nuke remains.

Alpine troops were nice, I always used them to defend my cities, and I remember modding Leonardo's Workshop (which I always built because it upgraded all your units - for free) to work until Future Tech. I then made the unit upgrade path go from Phalanx (2 def) > Musketeer (3)> Rifleman (4) > Alpine Troops (5) > Mech. Inf. (6).

As from Civ3, I don't think anything needs be included (like, they have brought in a replacement for Radar Artillery, and a few missing units).

Civ4 + BtS has a great, diverse unit selection, I wouldn't want much more.

Lol in Civ2 I always nuked the ground next to the city, that way the SDI doesn't even get a chance to defend and gets caught in the 9 squares of blast radius. i miss cruisers from Civ3, I also miss Dromons and helicopters.

Cannot capture enemy cities; Doesn't receive defensive bonuses; Flies over terrain; Can withdraw from combat (25% chance); +100% vs. Armored Units

They rock with Blitz promotion ;)

I miss the horse units you got from the Statue of Zeus in Civ 3 Warlords. It was great to build that wonder and have your military needs taken care of for a little while.

I also miss the caravans that could make a "food trade route"

Many from Call to Power....the entire future age, for instance.

But also the non-combat units (slaver, abolitionist, etc.), also unique units for government types (the Fascist)

I like the Civ 3 Persian Immortal better. Why is it....Cavalry in Civ 4? That makes no sense.

The aforementon Flak from Civ3....should be available in Civ4 as an Industrial age anti-air....sometimes your stuck from the advent of fighters to SAM Infantry...or since BtS Airships.

I liked the graphic for the Civ 3 Guerrilla...looked like a Vietnam-era American soldier. Don't see a place for it in Civ 4, though. The only thing I can think of, a long pet-peeve of mine has been the mech. infantry. I'd like to see something like a Civ3 Guerilla become "modern infantry", either eliminating mech. infantry or diverging the two into different roles along with the Marine. like a late game combined arms dynamic, Modern Infantry is the baseline that mech. infantry was, mech. infantry would be powerful but vulnerable to anti-armor units, the Marine would be most useful in amphibious fighting, being slightly weak without the bonuses for that.

Also I missed the concept of the Crusader Knight from Civ 3. I liked that they could build forts on their own. I'd like to see that in Civ 4, i'd make "The Crusades" project, and it grants a chance each turn that a Crusader Knight will be generated.

Air units in civ 2 ignored zones of controll so that can't have happened :)

I miss Settlers that occasionally counterstuck attacking Battleships and sank them.

The Sipahi. Love'd seeing dual pistol calvary light up the battlefield.
And the Civ3 immortal were sweet too (stronger than legionaries so that what make them what, 10:strength: in Civ4).

In fact, they're back. Well, not as partisans after a city is taken, but as axemen or some other unit when you raze a city. And that's a serious punishment for being nasty against civilians. But yeah, I too like the idea of partisans.

The Dutch Swiss Pike Mercenaries. Bring those across as say strength 8 and you could walk through armies of knights, just as they did historically.

Chinese riders, free ancient cavalry and those fort building crusader knights were great fun too. Having bad memories about dromons sinking my galleys, can't say I miss those.
