Who would build a granary first? You don't have the tech prereq when the game starts.
As others have said; no terrain penalty. They also are cheaper...
scout every single time, due to the benefits that ruins give, so much for choice i guess.
Scout -> Settler, sometimes with Worker in between (if I have mining luxuries around)
Scout first,usually worker after that.
It competely depends on the setup of the game, scout first on any size bigger then tiny. Otherwise it would be a worker for me. In the rare chance I have all crappy resources not worth getting in the first turns after a worker gets built then I usually go military. I don't turn off the huts because the computer gets the same random stuff. I had a Ottoman rifleman at my city within 50 turns in a 1v1 on a standard map... amazingly he didn't wipe me out and I'm glad I had a few units already or maybe he would have... Can't wait to get home and see how the patch has done so far....
My typical build order is scout -> worker. I agree that warriors are tougher, but the no terrain penalty makes them worth it to me, since I can get to ruins much faster.
Scout.. Im just that nosey
