What do you grab with the oracle?

Civil Service! That one is usually the first really expensive tech I come across. I then go for Metal Casting and build up macemen.

I always have Code of Laws when the Oracle is completed. In a perfect game, I take Civil Service with the Oracle, but ... in most of my games, I go for Philosophy

i usually go CoL and pop theo with a prophet in games where i want as many religions as i can get. a couple times philo when i don't think i'll get a scientist, or i really want to use my next (or first) GS for an academy.

i don't go for metalcasting, but i also almost can't remember the last time i played an industrious leader. so i don't get discount forges, and OR causes no pollution and takes no time to build . note that i'm not an early rusher, so i don't need metalcasting/machinery pronto for better troops. that would likely change things.

i did get machinery from it in a recent game, because i was beelining optics and had conveniently popped metalcasting from a hut. that hut saved me more than 30 turns of research, yay for smart villagers!

Highly situation-dependent. In my Immortal Dutch Domination game for instance, I wanted religious friction among my neighbors so I left CoL for someone else and grabbed MC instead.

Before BTS I normally try and grapped Fuedalism with it, but I think that was with classical start. In 1000 AD game I almost got Liberalism with the Oracle as Japan Got Gunpowder with Byzantium.

CS is very hard to do at the highest difficulty settings, but the lower you go, the easier it is to get it.

At Immortal+ (where you will likely be beaten to the construction of the AP) I think I'd prefer MC almost every time, as I don't want to spread Confu; I want to take the AP religion instead.

mostly CoL or MC, it depends on the situation
