what do you need to build veteran helicopters?

ive always wonderd, as i was unsure i built both barracks and airport

I don't think you can, because they have thier own unit type, with movement as air, but can always be attacked.

The airport is what you use to build veteran air units, including the helicopter.

Also I believe you may need a harbor to create veteran ships...

Personally I've got no idea why on earth you would want helicopters, let alone vet ones! They are one of the most useless units around.

There are no useless units!!!

While some units tend to be more useful than others, they all have their niche. Just because your style of play never needs helicopters, others do.

The fact that they can capture a city, while all other air units can't, is in itself useful.

I also find them useful scouts for CVs.

Put them over a lake and ground forces can't attack them.

They can travel very long distances over both land and sea.

What! Helecopters are fantastic units - if you build enough of them you can take over the world (power-mad stare)

They can fly longer distances than any other air unit *and* they can capture cities. What more do you want!

Helis are one of the BEST units!
They can not only kill fighters (well, I have anyway), but also take cities! The only drawback is that they lose a few HP every turn they aren't in a city.
