QUESTION

What govt paths do you usually take, what level are you playing at and what victory condition do you usually try to acheive with
this govt path.

I usually take the following path

Dep - Monarchy (and I stay there)
Level: Regent , Monarch & Emporer
Victory : Domination & Conquest

Post your path !!!!!!

Cheers

Currently on Warlord (don't get much chance to play at the moment - new baby syndrome )

Govt - Dep - Monarchy - then aim for democracy
Victory - cultural / spaceship or diplo if getting beaten!

I am not a warmonger - can't you tell!

Despot - Rep - Democracy
Spaceship win
warlord/regent

I try to have the warmongering over by the late industrial era. I've never taken Monarchy seriously, how's the research rate?

If going for military victory I go straight to monarchy and stay there the rest of the game.

Peaceful victory I will go straight to republic and stay there the rest of the game, most of the time. I rarely will go for democracy, but only if I really need those fast workers and I know there will be no wars.

Despotism-Monarchy-and bit of democracy at the end of the game.

I stay in despotism long enough to pop-rush temples in the frontier cities and typically some swordsmen as well (while the core cities produce faster units, e.g. horsemen, so they can be at the front). By the time I get the Monarchy tech I usually want to switch.

I find Monarchy to be the most convenient and general-purpose of the governments in Civ3. You can fight pretty much all you like and still do okay economically. Haven't tried Communism though.

As in all the Civ games, I very often find myself playing Democracy in the end, to be economically competitive.

In the previous games it was never much of an option to stay in Monarchy for too long. Buying tech wasn't as easy as in Civ3, so it was very important to have strong research and maintain a tech lead - something which couldn't be done in the Monarchy of the previous games.

Overall I like the Civ3 government system alot better than that of Civ2. Fundamentalism in Civ2 was completely broken and rather dubious in terms of realism too. In Civ2 Monarchy was better than Despotism in almost every aspect, while it couldn't really compete with any of the later governments, so there weren't many interesting choices to make in what government to have. In Civ3 I feel that all the governments have something going for them, except Communism is almost certainly superior to Despotism (fair enough, given the technological difference).

Despotism -> Republic -> Democracy
Warlord, any victory. I like cash and fast workers, to build my empire and my military. I try for Monarchy for the Hanging Gardens, and Communism for Police Stations, when I get a chance. I need to move up a level after holiday, and I'll need to try new strategies then.

Well, i usually go for Democracy, and aim for either Space race or Diplomatic.
If Space race for some reason fails, i usually have an army, mostly consisting of nukes and tanks, and then run for domination.
Some times, very rare, i win cultural without even aiming for it :king: .

Monarchy all the time if not playing a religious civ. Otherwise, i jump between democracy and monarchy depending on whether I am at war or not. (Don't like communism, too much corruption)

Why do so many people use monachy? Sounds strange to me. It is not that hard to wage war in Republic or even democracy if you manage your civ well. The advantages of republic far outway the drawbacks such as war weariness.

I'd shoot straight for republic then maybe democracy depending on my war mongering level of obsession in that game.

Play Monarch+, you're learn to LOVE Military Police.

Me: Despotism - Monarchy (medieval warfare) - Democracy (latter game stability - ONLY if I have access to 5+ luxuries)

Regent/Monarch

I always head straight for Republic ASAP and stay there for just about the entire game. But then I'm almost entirely a builder. I never fight more than one war at a time, never start more than one per age, and in fact I've won by domination only once and conquest never.

With religious civs I'll pop to Monarchy first if an AI researches it more than 8-10 turns before I'll get Republic, and Democracy as soon as it comes in. With non-religious civs it depends; if war looks unlikely I'll go to Democracy in about half the games.

Why is communism so unpopular for warmongers? I admit I havent experimented with it much, what is the drawback from moving from monarchy -> communism?
