What happens if you IP ban the server?

OK, recently I've had to ban some IPs from my site ... long story, PM me for details. So anyways I was wondering about this... The IP my site is on is 173.199.139.12 ... What would happen if I put that into the IP Deny Manager? Would try it myself but I might break something.

When I tried googling this I got some crap about MMORPGs...

Anyone know or willing to test it for me?

Since you're presumably just blocking source IPs inbound, the net effect would probably be... nothing, except for a confused firewall service. It might not even let you do so. You should test it, though.

Well I'm sort of afraid to. Haha.

It would just mean that anyone browsing the web using the server would be unable to access your website.

But depending on how they have their firewall setup it could have the unintended consequence of blocking your entire site to everyone.

How can anyone answer such a vague question? Also, what's the point of trying to block, if I'm following your question, your own server on its own firewall (if that's what this "IP deny manager" is)? :crazyeye:
I'm guessing this has something to do with the way some web hosting service works...
