So I was playing Civ 4 and decided to go into quick war with my neighbor, Boudica. I took two cities (1 minor + her Cap) and see what I would get for peace. The issue, she is the one who thinks she should be on the recieving end of the deal! I just want to know, why would she think that?

Its not like she took any of my cities, and I lost only a little less than half of my invasion force (which isn't a lot considering I used like, 8 units).

your power versus her power is the issue most likely. Even if you took 8 cities and she still had twice your power she probably still want a city for peace.

Oh, thanks. I suppose that makes sense. She says she wants her Cap back for peace, but I have a tech lead and can probably sell her paper or something and get on with my building.

It's also very dependent on who the AI thinks is winning the war. This is largely based on who has lost the most units and taken more casualties. Taking more cities doesn't necessisarily improve that situation.

Yep the AI would have sat right beside Hitler and nodded as he convinced himself the russians were not winning the war.

The AI would never have opened a war on multiple fronts. It would have too much on its hands .

I did that today. Tectonic map with 3 other civs within 5 tiles of me, Gandhi, one of the chinese and uhh... someone who was not very memorable i guess.

Decided to have some fun and declared on the lot of them, then spammed chariots and a bit later horse archers from my one city.

It worked surprisingly well, mostly because 2 of them only ever had archers. Wiped out the chinese and the nonmemorable one, but by this point Gandhi had iron hooked up and i never found out where it was. My poor horses didnt last long against his spears, and he had somewhere between 3 and 5 cities so even my elephants didnt save me. Was a fun time tho.

So Basically he should just take another city preferably the largest one left and check again forpower rating screen right?

I have had this come up some time ago and it worked fine to just take another city to prove that I (not my enemy) was in control.;)

BS

That is true almost every time, but very rarely the AI is open to wage 2 foes... I know that it already happened to me.

I think it can happen in the case of events or rebuking demands (in extremely rare rebuke situations, but I've seen it too.)

In my game today Monty wanted the city I captured off him for peace but I negotiated and ended up giving him 30 gold instead.

AI will often take a cheap tech instead for peace.

Does this principle apply if the AI is aggressive, or for all AI's? I would imagine that AI's that are more prone to building units (all the civs with the aggressive trait except Hammurabi, Napoleon, Sury II, etc.) would demand more for peace than an AI that doesn't, all other things being equal.

Yeah, I had this happen in a recent Deity game - Monty was at war with Raggy, but saw fit to DoW against me as well. It was an incredibly foolish move, since he was already losing cities and I had an impenetrable walled/hill choke point. But I guess his power rating told him otherwise...

LOL I actually L O L-ed at this! Brilliant!

PS's tip is actually the most relevant, but I know that a lot of "regular game reporters" use it:

I always look to offer a bit of gold, then a cheap tech anytime the AI tries to bully a city. You will be surprised. Also, if you KNOW you can get peace, you can quickly pop a few of his units if you have a chance, which will lower his power. Even if you have to go out on a risky limb to attack one of his guys, do it, and "peace" will pop your guy right back to you.
