Based on what band was said to be the defining one of the two thousands I ask what genre is the one that will be put with the 2000's?

Blues, jug bands, creole, etc. Oh, unless you mean 2000 rather than 1900.. ;)

Corporate Mass Produce.

Kind of funny how a decade which saw the rise of independant internet music is still defined by plastic corporate music.

Outside of several nearly universal appeals (good beat, etc), music is an adaptive taste. So slamming stuff because its not indie enough for you is basically snobbish.

Right now, the market is large enough to support quite a few predominant genres.

Becuase of the internet two things have happened in this new musical era of ours, the first being that there is no overly dominating music genre rite now and the second being that there is no dominating artist, and if our times continue, wele never have a super artist or band like The beatles, or Nirvana, or michael Jackson.

A good beat isn't hard to come up with and I personally hate when people use that as justification for an otherwise low quality song.

I love some non-alternative bands(And by that I mean actually alternative, not the term that's a general label for generic nowadays). Just not the ones whose sound is practically manufactured by a label producer to be accessible.

Hip-Hop, easily.

You guys whining about corporate pop being churned out at an epic rate (don't get me wrong, I don't like it either) are ignoring that this decade has been THE decade for satisfying your indie indulgences.

I myself have a large hard drive of a lot of underground music. It's easy to find, just have to look.

pop is still going to be at a "defining" level of popularity(no pun intended) for quite a while.

Indie music is growing at an exponential rate but it will be a while before people are waned of the bottle.

Gansta rap :vomit:

I would have to say Metalcore or whatever you want to call it (Wiki it for a definition if you want).Metalcore gained tremendous popularity in the 00's. From being relatively unheard from some band's songs gaining massive popularity (ie. Killswitch Engage's End Of Heartache, all That Remain's Six) and it's fanbase is still growing. Pop music and rap ruled the 90s, compare then to now and their fanbases have been severely shrunk as the internet made music more available and more types, not just the popular kinds.
