A while ago I bought a small string puzzle:

The description on the package was not 100% clear so I would suspect the goal of the puzzle is: remove the small wooden ring from the big wooden ring.

However I am not sure wether that is the correct goal.
So I checked the answer but it makes it even more confusing.
eg1 - there are 2 answers but answer 2 started with enumeration 4
eg2 - the rings do NOT get seperated

The "answer":

It looks like make pretty designs Never seen that one before

you shall remove the little ring from the large one, with the red string still attached to the little ring. However the solution seam to misse a few steps & no I have not done it.

with the red string still attached to the little ring

that is no surprise there it is not possible to remove the red (white in the photo) string from the ring.

time to consult an expert on topology

!!!!!!!!!!!
Picture #4 is just incorrect.
The red string is connected to the small as well as to the large ring. That transformation is impossible

the puzzle is not about getting the rings unattached. The question is probably: what do you have to do to get the 3 strings hanging seperatly.

If you look at pic4: if you move the yellow in the direction of the arrow, it will hang seperated from the 2 other strings. What it fails to show, is that you then have to move the blue string in the other direction over the small ring. Then you have 3 strings that are seperatly attached.

At least, that's what i think it is..

GOT IT ("without" checking the answer)

The goal IS to get the rings unattached. In other words: Make the small ring independent from the big ring.

IMO the coloured ropes are a few mm too short. With one of the steps I got the idea I would make the puzzle broken
