What is the latest year you've settled a city in a non-contested area. (One that wasn't placed for purely strategic purposes, or one that you didn't have to defeat and destroy enemy city and then place a new one)

In my latest game, I sent a ship out with a settler, knight, and worker, and was able to find a decent (not ideal, but not crappy) area to establish a new city in the 1690's.

It was far enough away from an enemy civ that I could build up my cultural borders to a decent size and get a foothold in the area without pissing anyone off.

I'm playing an epic game on the second level of difficulty in a semi pangea world (two large continents) with a moderate climate and sea levels.

I gotta say I space out my cities quite a bit to allow the full fat cross in each of them, so once in a while I leave too much space. I've laid a city down in the 1800s in this case b/c there were hills all over, awesome production city for late game unit splurge ;) other than that, the latest is aro 1400 to settle the new world.
