    Just recently.

Start game on Emperor, small map.

Settle on a nice river location with wines, start warrior.

Four or five turns in, Persia turns up with two warriors and and a spear.

    Game over, ~ 3700 BC.

On one of my early attempts on Deity, I set up a Pangea map, playing as the Iroquois. The starting spot looked great with a cow, river, a couple bg, and a few hills with a little jungle showing nearby. I built three scouts and started to explore. About 20 turns later I had uncovered a rather large island (on which I was alone) that had a total of 7 squares that were non-Hill/Mountain that were not covered by jungle. ALL of them were in my city radius. Restart...

When I first received Civ 3, I was a tad unwise in my empire-building skills. Needless to say, the AI smelled blood in the water and everyone crushed me like an ant.

I started on an island with one square that wasn't jungle, desert or mountains.

    Amen! :wallbash:

And even more frustrating if you go back to an earlier save, play smarter to get that wonder 2 turns earlier, and another AI still beats you! :aargh:

Started one game when I came home from work, got a nice start. After playing for a while decided to save and hit the hay. As soon as I brushed my teeth after getting ready for bed, my alarm went off.

Oh... Did you mean game wise?

Same as Superslug - losing (especially to the Babylonians)

Ladies and Gentlemen, one more turn syndrom in a nutshell!

Hey Sealman? Wasn't your worst experience not losing to the Babs but instead playing them!?

Large map, Deity, max civs, me and Persia were right next to each other. I maintained an MPP with Xerxes pretty much the whole game. So there I was happily knocking off other civs then in the early modern age I decided to end my MPP with Persia and they attacked the very next turn. After a 2 and an half hour turn and trying to fend off his 800 MI and 600 MA I gave up, there was no way I was going to come out of it in one piece.

My biggest mistake was stopping research to build treasury four turns before completion of theory of evolution. I didn't want to start a new research project only to have ToE give me the exact same tech. Only problem was I had Universal Suffrage scheduled to complete in three turns. Well, now I know Suffrage costs 200 shields MORE than Evolution. Wouldn't you know it, Persepolis, which was also building Universal Suffrage and hot on my heels to complete it, completed theory of Evolution the same turn I completed Universal Suffrage by simply changing production to the less expensive Theory of Evolution. Next thing you know, Xerxes' treasury is up to 3000 and all the 3rd world AI are more advanced than me. By the time I had a small handful of destroyers their tanks were already rolling in... Moral of the story is Universal Suffrage is a perfect pre-build for theory of evolution

marceagleye's post reminds me of an experience with the ToE. I was one turn from researching Corporation...and the ToE completes!! I got Corporation and some other tech, when I could have had that tech + another one!

I still haven't learned how to time my research and completing the ToE simotaneously. :(

    WHY you ask?

Because It was in the late industrial ages....:suicide:
