What is your ideal form of government?

A Liberal Socialist Democracy.

My man Thoreau says it best:

"I heartily accept the motto, that government is best which governs least ... Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which I also believe, that government is best which governs not at all; and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have."

"The best government is one that governs the least" doesn't really say anything. It's like saying: "The best kind of pizza is one that looks the least like one".
Yeah it does lol. It'd be like saying "The best kind of murderer is the one that murders the least." Everyone agrees with that.

An enlightened dictatorship with universal rights. Since this is IDEAL, there's no need to bring up "abuse of power" considerations.

Once the enlightened dictatorship sets up a good framework, it dissolves for the most part, getting a limited constitution democracy that serves to keep things running, but doesn't have legislative power anymore since we've reached perfection.

The economic system will be a mixture of Communism and Socialism once almost everything is automated, ending the need for consumption and labor alike.

But not everyone agrees with "The best government is one which governs the least". Because thats just stupid.
Yes I agree. Clearly the more people we can imprison, the more protests we can suppress, the more restrictions we can place on people's lives, the more wars we can start, the more privileges we can give to the ruling class, the better.

Nothing wrong with imprisonment if people need to be kept away from society. Nothing wrong with suppressing protests if the protests are getting out of hand. Nothing wrong with placing restrictions on peoples' lives if it protects the populous. Nothing wrong with starting wars, so long as you're sure you can win them. The only real problem here is giving privileges to the working classes.

Ergo, you were correct to agree.

Well, relative lack of one, anyone. There will always need to be some level of government to run a legal system to protect us from eachother. Not to mention national defense.

But this is an ideal society I'm guessing so we don't need government for defense or criminal proceedings since we're all sitting around a global campfire singing songs.

The two ways we can protect ourselves from eachother, that I can think of, are:

-A system of laws that you must follow; there must be penalties for not following them, necessitating some level of government in the form of the police and corrections system

-Mass armament of everybody with the same quality of weapons.

Obviously option A's a better idea than plunging into pure chaos.

The police may not be hierarchal, but they will still be given privileges over the normal citizen to lock you up if you violate the principles of negative liberty, for the good of society.

How does the prison system work then? Unless we're going to execute every criminal in the act, we need somewhere to hold them, don't we? And how does sentencing work? Are we going to make each case up to democracy?

Also, isn't there a benefit to a professional, standing police force? Years of experience for one.

Prisons won't exist. Mental hospitals for the seriously dangerous members of society would exist. Most "crimes" would involve both parties working things out and coming to an agreement, with the advice of friends or community councils(also cycled regularly) if needed.

Unforgivable corruption for another.
