Oooh God. Persians don't speak Arabic, and I highly doubt they would speak Arabic in the game.

If they have their language in there it will be Farsi.

Merci bou cou.

Persia should be Farsi, I doubt they'd make this mistake (plus they have Arabs to speak Arabic).

If I had the game, I could tell you if the Romans are speaking Latin or Italian (or if I could just hear the sound file). But I'm sure someone else who has the game can tell you this long before I get it ;)

EDIT: About Persia. Although the Persians had their own language, the language of the Persian empire was not Farsi. Since the commercial influence of the Aramaeans effectively made it an international language throughout the Middle East, after conquering it, the official language of the Persian Empire was Aramaic.

Well, yeah. All contemporary civs will speak their own, Germans will speak German, Russians Russian, English English. Persians might speak Farsi?

I'd think the question applies more to extinct languages or civilizations. I'd also like to know the answer for those ones.

I know persia is somewhere in the middle east(Iran perhaps?), and the only middle eastern language I know is arabian. I'm sorry if I insulted anyone, I know I would have been slightly annoyed if someone said I spoke swedish. And yes: I did suspect the germans spoke german, the russians russian and so on.

Beaucoup. :D

By the way, anyone figured out if the barbarians speak anything?

Great feature isn't it?

The first time my unit spoke to me, in french of course, I tought someone else was in my apartment.

Civ4 is GREAT! (I should put this in my sig)

This is only my 2nd post, but i have to say this, CIV4 is super.

Right, now that's over ... I think the units speaking their native language is a great feature. It really adds to the atmosphere, and sucks you into the game. I chose the Germans last night, and it was fantastic to hear them call out "yes sir", in German of course, as i ordered the panzers to attack Egypt. Brilliant.

One of the common German unit responses is "haben sie einen plan?" which translates as "do you have a plan?". Although the answer to this question would have been 'no, not really', it is truely one of those features that makes this game great to play.
