meet the robinsons was HILARIOUS!
also, blades of glory.

i just saw anaconda on tv yesterday, and the night before i saw constantine. both very good!
i was only watching tv because i was in a hotel and both comuters were occupied

Prestige : not bad, and the twist is good. but the part about the tesla invention still leave the movie far from classic.

Perfume : nice movie, but somehow, mine copy seems to be censored... -_-"

Gin and Tonic

"As always, the book was better."

Not always, "Fightclub" has made a good transition to the screen, so did "the world according to Garp" and "Fear and Loathing in LasVegas".

Yet in deed, books turned in to movies are often very poor.

Couple of days ago I watched the Fountain. It was pretty much what I expected (i.e. not a sci-fi movie it's so often described). I thought it was quite good even though writing left a lot to hope for (especially the main characters were lacking somehow). I don't agree with the hype around the film but then I'm not a big Aronofsky fan either.

Yesterday I "watched" two films. The Sentinel bored me after 30 minutes and Borat after 10 minutes (not that Borat was thrice as boring as The Sentinel but I was thrice as bored to begin with). I must admit that they fulfilled my expectations rather well.

I haven't seen "the world according to Garp", but the fight club book sucked, compared to the movie at least, which was a first for me, in all other cases Book>Movie.

I listened to "Fear and Loathing in LasVegas" the audio book (my first audio book actually, wasn't bad at all). I thought it was better than the movie, not much better, but better.

Well "the world according to Garp" the book only had a slightly longer plot than the movie, IMO they where equally good. It is a very nice film/book.

What was it that you disliked with the book? I have read a couple of other books by Palachniuk, they where pretty good both of them.
I found the book a bit better because it was a bit nastier.

Fear and loathing the book was slightly better, but not much.

Saw "300" today. I liked it, since it had great bloody swordfights etc. That's all I expected from it and it delivered.

Mostly the ending. Very disappointing. I like the guy, I didn't want him to end up like that, even death would've been better for him than what did happen.

Never read or seen that garp movie/book, I might.

I liked that other film you recommended earlier: Underground.
I have recommended that one a few times here, we had a couple of "non hollywood movies" threads, I posted in them, recommending this movie.

It's brilliant.

Not what I have seen, but what I am watching this weekend. They get here tomorrow, and I'm quite looking forward to a marathon of golden oldies:

Battleship Potempkin
Alexander Nevsky (seen this one before, awesome movie)
Metropolis

Sunshine was the last film I saw at the pictures and what a load of bollocks it was.

Metropolis

I really should see this sometime. Lang is one of my favorite oldie directors and Metropolis looks really interesting. It's such a shame that Lang's original version is forever lost

Just watched The Departed and to be honest I was disappointed. After all the hype and Oscars I was expecting a great movie but only saw a mediocre one. Acting ranged from okay (DiCaprio) to very bad (Nicholson), scripting was very sloppy at times and even directing was kind of bland for someone like Scorsese. Without the high expectations I might have liked it more but now it just didn't deliver.

I watched one of my all time favorite moves "Patton" the other day, i really love that movie but i cant get around the battle scenes because they used the wrong kind of tanks for it

300 - I would imagine it got a lot of airtime here on civfanatics, but it was a crock. Dub out all the speaking parts, shorten it to 45 minutes and you'd have an interesting art movie.

Cypher - On TV, quite good for a movie with Lucy Liu in it and almost good except that the entire movie is pointless. What a waste.

[edit] Good lord, according to IMDB this waste of time actually won awards!

Metropolis

If you watch the whole of Metropolis, I will give you one virtual biscuit.
