Oceans of Slumber - I Mourn These Yellowed Leaves
I was shocked they never did a version of Blackleg Miner.
I don't know why, but I still like this version more than all the "over-refined" ones.
I've been listening to a lot of sci-fi-themed, dark ambient lately. Specifically, the European label Cryo Chamber.
Phonothek is a duo from Tbilisi with a background in jazz & classical. Has a neo-noir feel to me.
Sabled Sun is from Sweden, with a series of 5 albums about a man who awakens from hibernation to explore the future. Some of it reminds me of Daft Punk's score/soundtrack for Tron: Legacy.
Some are very good, others are spoiled by lame growling voices. Doubleplus hipster cred with < 10,000 views though.
They are definitely at the other end of the spectrum where theremins are set ablaze.
Bonus hipster cred: I saw Man or Astro-Man? play live, back in the '90s. I should get a free coffee with soy milk in a repurposed Mason jar or something.
