It’s not typical of me but I’ve been listening to rap\hip-hop quite a lot recently. Well, frankly speaking, it was mostly this playlist of the most popular 2020 videos https://f3mp3.com/playlist/27/ with EARTHGANG – Trippin being my favorite one. Idk, maybe it’s just this hot summer affecting me but I’ve downloaded the whole playlist to my phone and listen to it almost every day.

The 2010 remaster of Pretty Hate Machine is pretty good, very clear sound compared to the digital version of the original, with better bass. Wikipedia says it was remastered by the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker. The remix adds NIN's cover of Queen's "Get Down, Make Love" to the album's original list of songs.

Okay, that's probably a different Tom Baker, but now I'm having a fun time imagining the Tom Baker from Dr. Who rocking out to NIN over a huge soundboard.

This weekend's virtual concert is Ukrainian punk-metal band Jinjer.

This is the first time I've heard "Cloud Factory", and I think it's my favorite so far. I likee the guitar. I'm catching a little whiff of At the Drive-In.

So I was listening to Dark Passion Play by Nightwish, the studio album where one finds "The Poet and the Pendulum", and I was thinking that Floor Jansen's voice sounded pretty different. The album was recorded in 2005 and the live version I'd seen on YouTube was from a few years ago, so I figured that (a) her voice could've changed a little, and (b) live performances change over time, as the performers play around and do new things.

But it turns out my initial reaction was right: It isn't Floor on the album, it's Annete Olzen, who sang with the band after Tarja Turunen and before Floor Jansen. I hadn't heard of her before. She doesn't get mentioned much. Or ever. I didn't even know there was a 3rd Nightwish singer. Olzen is like the George Lazenby of Nightwish singers.

Also, this picture made me laugh. I guess I didn't notice how short Emppu Vuorinen is in the live videos. Google says that Floor is 6' and Emppu is 5' 3", and I think that might be generous to Emppu. I saw a comment somewhere else that was something like, "Three vikings, a sorcerer, a Valkyrie and a Dwarf started a metal band."

    Spoiler :

Say, does anyone else think she looks like Liv Tyler in this picture?

Floor Jansen was still in After Forever in 2005, their last album came out in 2007. At the time I thought Floor Jansen could've been a good choice for a replacement Nightwish singer, but for some reason she doesn't use her more operatic singing voice in Nightwish.
