What say you, can we bring back the contests in []?

:bump:
Another year gone by, has anything come of this conversation?
Not directly that I am aware of :(. IMO the key thing is for someone who has the time to dedicate to it to take the initiative to try something. I've been a bit too busy behind the scenes here to add that to my list of tasks (the most visible Civ III related result of what I've done this year being he refurbishment of the War Academy, and general improvements to the https://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/ section of the site).

Although for a while there before VII and real life took over, I was looking at getting a CCM3 and/or C3X post for the front page. I should revisit that.
Is there any broader site-wide desire to see C&C content return to the front page?
I think it's safe for me to say that YES, it is good to have C&C content on the front page, for any version of the series, including III. We're at a phase now where we've gone from zero Civ VII news to seemingly-daily Civ VII news, so that's getting a lot of front page attention for obvious reasons. But the most valuable content to highlight is content that it unique to CivFanatics, and C&C has historically been a good chunk of that.

Again, one of the main needs is essentially a citizen-journalist to compile the news. If someone created a "Civ III C&C Developments Q4 2024" thread in early January (or a full-year version), with descriptions of what's been going on, a pretty screenshot or two, and links to relevant threads for those who wanted additional details/to download the new creations, that would be an ideal format to share on the front page (and it's relatively straightforward to copy to the front page once it's in the forum). But it takes time to create that.
Not that I'm anticipating any new content released in the near future... :mischief:
I thought I heard rumors of some WildWeazel-related content being released in the not terribly distant future? :mischief:

I would say that this is an excellent idea, but you need someone to moderate it. Balthazar used to do that, but he is no longer with us.

I never liked such a kind of "competition" - and this is my opinion even today. In my eyes modders should work together and not against each other.

I do not think that the idea is to compete, but to show off some of the earlier creations that may be overlooked.

A contest, that is called contest and where a winner is created out of several participants, who are no winners, in my eyes is a contest.

The idea to show off some earlier creations, that may be overlooked, can be easily realized without a contest by creating an advertising forum, where civers can post Civ 3 creations by other modders they are especially liking and where it is not allowed to post one´s own creations (completly done by that civer or even beeing involved in that creation).

It's not like anyone is vain enough to post about winning these contests, eg in their sig.
Hm, wait ^^

Still, there has been a drought, relatively speaking, in gfx creation for CivIII. A contest can't hurt :)

Iirc we didn't even have the second decade contest.

I'm in the middle of doing another unit pack and have some units to show already plus I'm planning to do few new city sets, so I can do that.
In meantime I'm going to upload here some of my previous midjourney tests which I don't like but maybe someone can take an inspiration from it and do something good looking...

That really looks nice! Which AI you have used?
Have you tried AI to generate wonders and tech icons?
Here are some my experiences with Ideogram. As it seems to me, generating tech icons may be more tricky cause they should lack small details and should look okay when downsized.

I used Midjourney. I have seen before your tech icons, these are looking great.

The problem I have with it is that I can't reproduce palace views or isometric style in away the look like civ 3.

A thread to inform about one´s current modding work is not bad either. :)

Is it possible to use some images to learn it for specific style?
