I played at monarch game with all opponents civ available. And here is how I lost. The maps were 2 big continents. Me and Romans were the best of the rest. So I started war with the Greeks and when I left them 3 cities, I made peace with them because they gave me 2 science technologies. So after 4 or 5 rounds I declared war on them and in the 3 next turns EVERYONE was at war with me. Because I didn't give respect to the peace with the Greeks. When I could make war with the Greeks but not to annoy anyone about my behaviour?
Thanx!

Death comes to us all!!!

You could start by no breaking agreements currently in effect, ie within the 20 turn limit. When you made peace with the Greeks that agreement is valid for 20 turns, only after which you can break it by declaring war without too much of a diplomatic penalty.

I never had that problem, but you can get around it by stationing troop in their territory, then declaring war when they demand you move them out or else. Usually, this won`t make the others mad.

Also, provoke them to declare war.

Is it really less offensive to neutral civs if you declare war after being asked to move out of there territory? I've been ganged up on so many times I always think twice before starting any conflict and have never initiated war this way but will start if it's more acceptable to other civs.

While this method doesn't make the other civs declare war on you so quickly, it does make them very tough to deal with. By doing this, they will claim you broke a ROP the rest of the game. You will have a hard time getting fair deals after this. That is, if you care about deal-making too.

no, No, NO!

Don`t do it via a ROP, simply move them in without a ROP!

If you use ROP, wait unitl it the 20 turns are over, then cancel it but keep your troops where they are.

AQqs for the reputation hit: there`s no reputation hit for declaring war "fairly". If you do it within 20 turns of making peace and you paid something for that peace then you break a trade agreement. If you do it and you got something from the treaty then you aslo break a treaty. But that effect is smaller when the other guy gave you "reason".

Now if you ask someone to leave your territory, they usually go to annoyed. Same goes the other way round - when you get asked to leave the AIs assume you get pissed. Thus, the guy asking you to leave makes you angry - giving you reason to go to war. Thus, the penalty for breaking a peace within 20 turns is outweigted by the "agressive" act of your victim. Stupid, but I enver experienced a rep hit from doing this, also never saw one for the AIs, so I assume this is the way the game works.....
