    Income-wise: upper middle class

Life-wise: Welll...hard to say. Standard of living is good, but we have to pay for my sister's college tuitions, mortgage (thankfully my parents were smart enough to skip the subprime, and they have good credit anyways), and other things.

I put myself in UMclass, though.

    I have big dreams
Sometimes I lose perspective. I think it is much, much easier living a 'lower middle class' lifestyle when you know you could be livin' better, but choose not to, 'cause you're socking away savings like crazy.

Other times, though, I think "hey, anyone should be able to do what I'm doing". I have to remember that my mindset is not actually common.

I'm in the top 25% of earners in the US (just shy of the top 20%), but I don't consider myself upper-middle class. The so-called middle class lifestyle is pretty expensive! I'd need a working wife to pull it off. (I'm frugal as they come around here anyway, so she would be the spender. :( )

The Fair Tax would do a world of good to get more people to think like you. When there is no income tax, only sales tax (and only above the poverty line), people might get a bit more frugal.

I think the concept of class has a lot to do with mindset and your own outlook on life. There is a different "culture" between classes.

My parents are definitely upper-class, or at least Upper Middle Class. Considering that I basically live with them, I guess that makes me UMC as well.

As for "lifestyle" as others mentioned? That would firmly put me in the lower-class strata. I've never been one for fancy trinkets or spending lots of money, so I live on the cheap.

Lower middle class or "middle" as listed here.
I think combined my mom and step dad make like 65k a year.

Personally I am a broke college student

When I graduate my internship should start out around 35k and after 5 years or so I may be making double :)

There is definently only one culture here in Vegas. Some neighborhoods are poorer than other's but everyone does the same things really.

There's more to class than "trinkets"; income stability, health insurance, etc. are very important as well.

    Working class.
It is being born the son of workers and my experiences thereof that has shaped me and taught me the valuable things in life, and no matter how much money I may amass in the future I will never be able to adopt the bourgeois mentality.

Yeah I think your job, education, income etc are all inportant but your outlook is a huge factor. Generally people keep their class of their childhood for life, although there are exceptions

My grandparents were all very working class Labor voters, but my dad is in the military and was made an officer when I was 12. I feel like his job stability and higher income resulting from the military and especially his officer status, makes us at least middle middle, but probably upper middle class. I'm pretty poor as a student now but that doesn't change the attitudes I inherited.

I suppose strawmen don't always behave as you'd expect them to.

Could you explain what defines the Bourgeois mentality according to you, Im wondering if I have it.

My parents and the rest of my family are upper middle class, after my study I will probably end up upper middle or upper class as well.

I find it curious that so many people refer to money when talking about class.
