What surprise do you think Anton Strenger teased about?

E3 is near, sounds like it's something they will announce there. I'm pretty sure it's not an expansion though, so soon after Gathering Storm. Some kind of spin off announcement at E3 sounds the most realistic. That's the last thing i would hope for though, i would prefer if they just focused on CIV VI. The most realistic alternative would be something big in the patch notes like finally better AI or new DLC civs, although i think they won't do that anymore because players didn't like that kind of DLC.
Or something for consoles or Switch :(

I assume that whatever Anton was referencing is probably the project that Sarah moved to

Maybe it's Xcom 3 or Xcom 2 DLC? Or more DLC Civs? I don't know, i want to believe everything but they are working on some other unnecessary Civ spin off.
Without disrespect , I really hope it's something for X-Com , it's the only game in the past three years that did not disappoint me one bit (subjective I know)

I think he's just saying they're not done with CivVI. They've already told us there is an Advanced Mode for World Builder in the future. I think this means there will be at least one more patch for Gathering Storm.

Beyond that, I think there will be a 3rd expansion and follow up patches before they move on to Civ VII. They may also just keep going with more expansions for VI.

it had a little bit of a rocky release(mainly bad performance) but it has come a long way. I loved XCOM EU and EW. Some of the DLC for XCOM 2 is meh, but the x pac was fantastic. The latest FLC last fall was pretty solid as well. I hope they keep doing stuff for that game, and some day release XCOM 3.

anyways, i don't want to get too hyped up for what they hinting at. Could be some super small thing. Unless it was poor word choice, i am guessing its something meaty. its too early for an expansion tho.

That said, I remember that peculiar comment that Ed made awhile back about Anton working on something akin to an economic victory, and would love to see what that entails... Is this how they shoehorn Genoa/Venice/Florence in?

I guess I missed that one. Do you mind elaborating?

I'm hoping it will be some more civs, or at the very least, alternate leaders. I actually really enjoy the idea of alt leaders and how they can put a fresh spin on playing a civ. America, China, Egypt and Russia would be great candidates, and also being vanilla civs, they're compatible for those who don't have the expansions.

And I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I'd like to see R+F and GS expansions for iOS/Switch. Playing on the iPad is great. Sure the graphics aren't as good nor is it as speedy as my gaming laptop which I play Civ on, but there is something to be said about the ease of playing on a couch or in bed, or the portability of it. The only reason I don't play on my iPad any more is because of the lack of expansions. I would love to be able to put in a good session on my laptop before I go to bed, then pick up the game on my work breaks on my iPad.

I hope it's not dlc, or a spin-off or an early expansion. I'd like FXS to take their time and give us a proper expansion February next year, that really tackles Ideology and maybe makes the diplomacy, cultural influence and empire management part of the game more deep.

We can have some DLC after we get that (please).

Instead, I hope Anton's "watch this space" was more about other buffs and tweaks, like unit and resource balancing, coastal and colonial cities and disaster recovery.

Does anybody know how profitable Beyond Earth was? Would it be worth them making BE2? I'm guessing pretty much anything with "Civilization" in the title is a licence to print money.

A proper remake of Alpha Centauri would be even better. Aki Zeta 5 could help with the coding.

Not much to elaborate. During live stream banter, Ed made a comment about an economic victory that Anton pulled off in a board game (unspecified game) they were playing over lunch. On the assumption that everything Ed says and does is carefully calculated and never, ever, casual, some on the forums leapt to the conclusion that “economic victory in Civ VI — confirmed!”

Better not be a dlc pack with 1-2 leaders. If so we could forget about a third expansion. This is most likely to happen do. I expect another 6-8 leaders on dlc packages.

I'm also guessing they'll reveal more of the patch... could be that they have more ideas for playing tall than just (great first step btw) better specialists.

My secret hope would be a hint at a third expansion though... But that's more of a November thing...

I think it might be a smaller scale Dlc pack with some additional leaders

I'm also putting my money on a DLC packs that mostly (or perhaps exclusively) new civs and new leaders for existing civs.

It was "surprises" plural - not "surprise". I think it's a stretch to assume there is a specific announcement coming soon.

There's no sense adding new Content until they fix all the old Content . . .
Not only is new content without fixing the old the norm but a vote on this forum matched that preference heavily. People want more DLC’s etc.
A fix patch is for most people dull, it has to come with more content or it is marked down, and as originally stated they have an art team that would be twiddling their fingers so it does make sense to do both, which is what they try to do.

It is human nature to underestimate effort and to repeat that pattern and perhaps this is why so much does not get fixed?

An economic victory would be interesting if done well....
