All right, so my mom gave me a pile of old CDs. Here are some I can't figure out what they are:

An "Academic Edition" of Corel WordPerfect Suite. I know what WordPerfect is, but what does "academic" mean? It's for Windows 3.1, 95, and NT. There is a copyright but it's so tiny I can't read it. I think 1996.

Macromedia Director 7 Shockwave Internet Studio Version 7.02. (No proper case -- it's in a paper wrapper) It says it's for Windows 9x and NT.

Microsoft Developer Network Library -- Visual Studio 97. It says it's for all Windows platforms, although the copyright says 1992-1997.

Thanks all.:crazyeye:

Those various editions of WordPerfect or other programs just means it has various features added or removed, and it's at a different price. No big deal.

Shockwave studio sounds as if it's an editor.

Visual Studio is for programming Microsoft specific languages, such as Visual Basic. There's some other language they have specifically for webpages. VBScript? Something like that.

Thank you much. :)

Academic software is just a special license that makes professional software available to students & teachers at significantly lower prices. *Usually* it's the full-featured program, but sometimes lacks some features.

BTW, if you were interested in programming you'd be much better off using the Visual Studio Express versions that MS makes available for free download. Chuck that '97 version in the trash and don't give it a second thought.

Thank you again. I wasn't really planning on installing them, I was just curious. :)

I wouldn't bother with any of them. Visual Studio 97 is pointless when you can get the Express editon of 08 for free.

Shockwave is/was an alternative to Flash made by Macromedia/Adobe. It's supposed to stream better but is lacking some of Flash's features.

Wordperfect is simply antiquated.

thanks again
