What to do with our GL?

We got a Great Leader in the preturn, and he's making his way to Kyoto. He will arrive in 3 turns, however, 1 tile is in Russian territory, which means 1 turn for stopping in Russia. (Russia WILL accpet a flat out ROP for ROP deal. That would get the GL to Kyoto quicker).

Why do we want to do this?

1 - We can build Newton's University
2 - Greece is building it, and will be done in 3 turns - based on the embassy screenshot (the downside is that Greece could cascade to Universal Suffrage, but seeing that we won't be a democracy anytime soon, or at all, I think that risk is diminished)
3 - Kyoto is size 12, and generates the most income. Plus, it would put cultural influence on the frontier, and help science.
4 - Greece is Commercial, and letting them have it (IN THEIR CAPITAL!!) means they'll research techs faster, sell it, and have a powerful war economy.

Of course, there's other options:

1 - rush a great/small wonder
2 - rush the palace
3 - Build an army

I think we should use it to rush the TOE.....

How can we when we're far away from that wonder? That's 4 techs away.

I know, but the ToE is a nice wonder.... We can try to get steam power, medicine, electricty(TV!!), and Scientific Method as fast as possible then rush the ToE. We can then use the free two techs to get Industrilization and Replaceable parts (factories and infantry I believe). Before anyone else.

I also call attention to the Greek Embassy that was established in 1130AD.

In 1130AD, the Greeks had 8 turns left on Newton's.

1170AD - Newtons (4)

In 4 turns (1210 AD - I think), Greece will be finished.
In 3 turns, our GL will arrive at Kyoto.
It will take 1 turn to rush the wonder there.

Now, there is a Russian tile in the way. Do we want to have 20 turns of an ROP agreement to get that wonder possibly 1 turn sooner? (Remember, Leaders have a movement of 3...

It's 10 tiles away on road, and would normally take 2 turns, but with the Russia tile (and the grassland that's in the "Detour", it will take 3.

Did you ever trade for Industrial and Modern era techs? ;) They're expensive, and will take a LONG time before we get them. (especially at the rate the turn chats are going)

Excuse me on my gross lack of acronym understanding, but just what is TOE?

EDIT: Nevermind, just looked it up. Honestly, the first time you use an acronym, you should explain what it is so that we can understand how you're using it. It's proper writing etiquette ;)

Unless our civilization plans to make a complete and immediate revolution and start beefing up science, I see no need to build Newton's University. I'd prefer to save our leader until we can use him, rather than waste him. But if we do want to go Scientific soon, maybe my opinion will be different...

It would serve to deny the other civ of it. Also, we're short on markets and univesities. The more we have, the more commerce we have for science. Industrial Techs are expensive.

I say we use the GL we have just produced and rush build Newton :).

I'd rather deny other civs the chance to get Theory of Evolution than deny them Newton's ;-) I've never believed that Newton provided that big of a benefit anyway.

[Edit]
AWWWW shoot! I just wasted my 300th post! >_<

Denying Newton's to the Greeks is not a bad idea but there's not need for us to build it in Kyoto especially if that means making an RoP with Russia. (We should be thinking seriously about a war with Russia, not buddying up to them.) If you want to build Newton's do it in Kagoshima. Better yet, form an army in Kagoshima and load those three rifles into it. It could be used to anchor our pillaging spree into Babylon, or it could anchor our invasion of Russia.

I think that we should build Newton's anyway. Who knows, we may bump up research in the future. Besides, the sooner we use our current GL, the sooner we get another. ToE is a LONG way off...

The NU (Newton University) would defenatly help us in terms of research. The sooner we get NU, the better.

Of course, the GL will not be able to reach to only city producing science..

Well, we can send the GL to Kyoto and rush build the NU there :).

From the man who brought you the Penguin scientist, comes the Kyoto scientist. Take a laborer from a mountain. Turn it into a scientist. This will put science in Kyoto. Build Newtons in there, and we have a possible chance!

I agree, we should build the NU there so that it can enhanse the Scientist in Kyoto and our Science Department :D.

I agree Master Stuck. This can definately help.
