What! Already another?

Somebody uploaded Season 4 of The Beverly Hillbillies on YouTube. I've been watching a few episodes of that, and some of Jay Leno's Headlines.

As for real TV? Just Survivor and the occasional Britcom on Saturday nights (Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By).

oooh...new thread!

12 Monkeys (1995 film) was a masterpiece. One of my all time favs.

I did not know there was a TV show. I'm a little scared to watch it because I don't see how it could outdo the film.

12 Monkey's TV show was produced by SyFy. It's a fairly recent show, ending it's run of 4 seasons in 2018. I would classify the movie and tv show as mutually exclusive deals. It takes the concept and builds on the original mythos. (And in case anyone is not aware, the movie 12 Monkeys was based off a French Short Film La Jetée from 1962)

The show stars Aaron Stanford, who may be familiar to some from the X-Men movies (he was in the younger group that could do the fire thing with his hands) and probably more familiarly from Nikita. He's in the Willis role. A new actress was in Stowe's role, and I liked her. Goines is a female here, played by a Canadian actress. She's pretty good and nutty but takes some getting used to initially. I was immediately attracted to watching the show and basically watched it during it's live run. I thought it very good, and it had a strong cult following which kept the show going for 4 seasons, when it was constantly under threat of being canceled. So the show was able to get a full run and come to satisfying resolution. It really builds up the "12 Monkey" conspiracy into something new and complex. And, ofc, really emphasizing the whole time travel thing which is quite fun. The first couple of episodes or so will mirror the movie in some ways, and then it expands/branches significantly into new stuff.

I highly recommend it, and suggest looking at the show in such a way that it takes the concept of the movie and builds it into something more for a series. It's not trying to be what the movie was. The award winning actress from Ted Lasso and Game of Thrones (the nun who gives it to and the takes it from Cersie) has a pretty good role in the latter stages of the series as a baddie. For me, the show fed my appetite for more 12 Monkey type stuff.

Oh, and yes, 12 Monkeys is one of my all-time favorite movies. I've seen it probably at least 10 times.

Not sure where it is available to stream though. It was available through the SyFy app at one time, which will need TV Provider to access content. But maybe it is somewhere else as well now. I'll see if I can find it.

"12 Monkeys" the show is on Hulu.

I started watching Beforeigners (2019) on HBO Max this week. Only a couple of episodes in, but it's pretty cool. Will definitely keep watching.

In brief, time portals periodically open in the present day, dumping thousands of bewildered "timeigrants" from 3 eras, the Stone Age, the Viking Age, and the 19th Century. An Oslo police detective with issues teams up with a Viking fresh out of the police academy to investigate the murder of one of the time-displaced. Remember Alien Nation (the movie or the tv show)? Well, there you go. Will Smith and Joel Edgerton did this thing a couple years ago, with Orcs & Elves in present-day Los Angeles, but it was disappointing. This one's better, at least so far.
  • Oslo looks awesome. Definitely wouldn't mind going there.
  • Old Norse sounds awesome. No idea whether the actors are speaking it correctly, but f it, it sounds cool.
  • Of course you're using subtitles, you philistine. HBO Max is one of the streaming services that gives you maximum control of the subtitles. Multiple color and font-size options. You can even choose the font.
  • The "russ-bus" thing seemed to be important, so I was moved to look it up. It's about russefeiring, which I don't fully understand, but for the purposes of the show, I think I get the gist.
  • Uror is a riot. I hope she sticks around.
  • If you've got kids, there isn't much violence so far, but there's quite a bit of casual nudity, including full-frontal. And just judging from the way the show seems to be handling its business so far, I bet when the swords and stone clubs do come out, it's going to be some Vikings-style mess.

Clearly the parents were right - kids are watching too much TV these days.
I think it's mostly the parents who are in this thread.

No need to be pedantic. The youth has been decadent for millennia besides we will not confess anything of the sort or break even under pressure. I'd rather watch something on tv.

Saw that one a coupla years ago. Good Skandi tv fun. I think there's a second season just out, but haven't been able to watch it yet.

Gonna watch it! Thanks.

This sounds sort of interesting. I need to check this one out. Only two seasons of The Virginian left...

- given that the main character is played by a Finn I'd assume not
- there's always the option of learning Norwegian, even a US minister managed that so it can't be that hard. In all fairness reasonable Swedish/Danish will probably get one through but subs are fine. Did we all previously agree that dubbers should be burned as heretics?
- one should visit Oslo while there's still the option to see it/Holmenkollen covered with snow. By recent estimates this might only last 20 years
- I might be slightly off here and expecting to be corrected by the natives but Norway is a bit more old fashioned with nudity than we're and very much so compared to Denmark & Sweden but in US terms they're raving mad pornhunterlunatics that should be put away for life immediately. Like I said in the film thread (I think) non-sexual nudity isn't an issue on its own.

2 episodes in and it is good enough to keep going. It is a pretty nice twist on crime stories.

Carolina plays Duke in the Final four in about 90 minutes. Go Tarheels!

I hope they both somehow lose..ha ...

You can always archive the thread, but if you did so, I, as the thread starter, would be honour-bound to kill you.
