What TV Shows are you watching? ι', a perfect I.

I’m up to Season 1 episode 14 so far and thoroughly enjoying.
Wifey and I watched a couple of eps, but it didn't really grab us. Maybe I should give it another go...

Of the things we've watched recently, all on Netflix.de (but presumably also .com), I would like to nominate for the judges' attention Black Rabbit (crime and family secrets in Noo York), Untamed (crime and family secrets in Yosemite) and Pantheon (SF animation musing on the nature of consciousness / intelligence).

Untamed on Netflix is excellent!

I actually remember watching an episode or two when it first came out years ago, and then stopping kinda like you - musta been my mood at the time. Then I started watching again a few years later and really got into it. I think I watched like about 4 of 5 seasons, before it seemed to lose steam for me, but it lasted a good 10 seasons, which is impressive. It is a bit like a cross between 24 and Alias, in the sense of crazy spy and conspiracy stuff. It really does hook you and gets bingy, but like those 2 other shows it reaches a point where it kinda loses the point. But hecka worth it for a while.

Black Rabbit looks good..I plan to check it out.

Haven't watched much TV lately at all, so need to report on Alien Earth. I have watched the 4th episode. Also, Wednesday.

Also, Wednesday.
Yes, obviously we watched that one too! Liked it just as much if not more than S1, though I think it did suffer a bit from Netflix trickling it out over two months (you b**t***s!).

Sandman S2 was also pretty good -- as far as it went. Coherent in itself, but as someone who read the books several times, I did miss all the "extra" stories and even entire chapters that were cut for the sake of packing the remainder of Morpheus' central arc into just one season.

October Faction was fun but lightweight. And also yet another SF+F series cancelled after one season.

Completed Vikings.

When it first aired, i was amped for it but the pilot didnt hit me right.
But i gave it another go, because i am playing thru Creed Valhalla at the moment.

Boy am i glad i did, had a rip roaring time exploring with Ragnar and his merry (sometimes moody) crew.

Some great character work, meet a few...

Season 1-4 of Vikings is amazing. Incredibly entertaining and riveting storytelling.

Last two seasons are a bit of a mess. Didn't help that the writers got very, very creative with the historical facts.
Ivar the Boneless never set foot in the lands of the Rus, I mean what the hell?!

Ah..they are doing "Hedge Knight" finally. I've heard of a few GOT prequels/sequels that got canned, and thought this was one, or maybe something better was submitted. The cast is quite unfamiliar except for Spruell. But "Hedge Knight" has a novella to base it on.

If I recall, I think "Egg" is the maester fromm the Black Watch (Aegon) that was like 100+ years old

I've never played the game Halo, but the 2 season series on Netflix was excellent sci fi.

In the game AC: V, there are Roman ruins, artifacts etc...all over the England map.
Interesting how King Egbert (a very crafty and funny king) cunningly used all those secret Roman treasures to his advantage.
He really loved his Roman Bath, held all his meetings there, ran his kingdom from there etc..haha.
Big up to Bishop Edmund too, who bravely stayed with the King drinking away barells of red-wine and cracking jokes in the cellar with axes of death knocking on the door (Vengeful Vikings!)

Noticed religions were displayed a lot in a hallucinatory way in the show, can see how that could be the case back in them days.
One of my fav episodes was the one the Vikings partied up in the holy mountains, drinking, shroomin and wildin all night.
That was quite a trip for the kidnapped monk.

Viking battle tactics...skjaldborg!

There was some brutal executions/kills/torture in the show,
Ragnar's slow torment and viper-pit execution was really sad.
Lagertha's death was tragic, but she got a lovely send-off.
Floki's chinese water torture in the cave, his wife was a trooper for holding that cup over his head for as long as she did.
Dying/dead Bjorn raised sword on the war-horse before battle was legendary! That tomb!
Count Odo play whipped to death, then Therese and Roland garroted Godfather style, Ethelstein being crucified (but then saved), the witch queen poisoning Erik blind and all those take-forever 'Blood Eagles' being handed out like Xmas presents.

The Paris seige arch was great, dead Ragnar jumpin out of the coffin and taking the Princess hostage! What a move! King Charles was shook!

Spiked wheel, someone call Rollo!

Special shout out to the Marilyn Manson soothsayer, liked the way he would tease the future and keeps the audience guessing.

Yew, there was a bit of a wobble in the last 2 seasons...writing should of been tighter.
Some archs ended arubtly or seemed rushed, such as jolly Rollo just went missing (his turn as a Franks-man was hilarious, even his nagging wife was in stitches).
But still plenty of strong high-lights, King Harald was on form plus the baddie from Beverly Hills Cop Boris Karloff and Ray Stevenson make VIP entries.
Ivar carried a lot of the later seasons, one of the creepiest but most interesting of the characters...the chosen one!

Was interested in seeing a bit of the Rus empire, noticed the warriors armour/helmets had a mongolian look and that Prince Oleg was off his rocker.

End scene (from Ubbe's arch) was bliss, after such testing journey of carnage and mayhem.
Step aside Christopher Columbus, Floki the Long-ship boat maker got to Americah first!

I am going to be hanging around in that era a little longer -

The Last Kingdom (Based on Cromwell's novel) up next, Vinland Saga (Anime) and then Viking's Valhalla set 100 years later, after the events of the original.

Don’t expect dragons and a big, magical scale to this show, either. “Nobody's thinking about magic,” Parker said. “This could basically be 14th century Britain. This is hard nose, grind it out, gritty, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It's a wonderful place to be. We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We're not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens."

“I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them," Martin said in a blog post in January. "Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall.”

Martin continued to celebrate A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, adding: “It’s as faithful an adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject).”

MUSSOLINI: SON OF THE CENTURY, from BAFTA-winning director Joe Wright (ATONEMENT, DARKEST HOUR), is an audacious eight-part portrait of Benito Mussolini’s ruthless rise—from socialist journalist to Italy’s fascist dictator. Starring Luca Marinelli (THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS), this adaptation of Antonio Scurati’s prize-winning novel blends bold visuals, a hypermodern style, and an electrifying score by Tom Rowlands (The Chemical Brothers).

Critics Consensus
Luca Marinelli reigns over Son of the Century with a vibrant impersonation of Benito Mussolini, with director Joe Wright's highly imaginative staging lending a theatricality that suits the infamous dictator.

Season 3 of the Diplomat is now on Netflix!!:thumbsup:

Clickbait on Netflix.

Not exactly what I thought it would be. Was expecting a more crime procedural thing surrounding a murder, but we are instead following the family, journalists, mistresses and what have you.

Sean Bean stars as the Sheriff of Nottingham Forest -

Rob Hood is an outlaw who steals from the crown and rebels against Norman authority, setting a dangerous precedent for rebellion.

I was just reading the synopsis on this.....the ratings are not very good. Interesting, I just noticed a new show about William the C and Harold Godwinson(with James Norton), that also makes the glaring and problematic anachronism that the Normans brought Christianity to England. Did not go over well with both shows.
