What units are you good at commanding?

From my extensive recent experience as the Seleucid Empire (I've had to manually fight every battle to ensure that my hoplites work right, especially against the Egyptians), I find that the specifics of the Seleucid army are perfectly suited to my battle style. I would say my best command is with hoplites, supported by archers, with some light cavalry and perhaps chariots for support, though I tend to shy away from the chariots, they get spooked by my archers' flaming arrows.

I am quite adept at using such tactics. And it is rather shameful how badly the AI commands your hoplites when you don't command the battle personally. But, I was on the other side of the fence, Egypt. Chariots, I've found, are good only against cavalry, so generally they're a waste of money.

If you flank with chariots right, you can decimate armies. Using five units of chariots, I cut a full-strength Greek hoplite army to pieces, all because I hit their flanks.

I also find them useful, even if in a suicidal manner, for breaking up a hardened troop line.

No particualr preference, except to have well trained and armorued units.

I liek a nice balanced army, with archers (or some other knid o fskirmesher, depends on the nation) to go in front and retreat when the enemy attacks (I prefer to defend but it work well if the enemy is defending too). Infantry will be behind the archers, I like to have spear, halberd and pike units in the front row with other non-missile infantry behind them to be sent in to plug a gap or help a struggling unit. I've enjoyed as Spain using the Jinets to flank the enemy and once they have used u their javelins will pester archer units if they are for enoguh away from their infantry/calv or just circle in behind and attack after my infantry attack. Same with my calvalry thoguh I often keep my generals just behind and off to the side of my infantry in case they are needed and to rush in once the enemy begins to break. I don't use large weapons like Ballistas yet since I generaly don't bother building the right building for a while and I havn't plaeyd too far into the gaeme yet (70 turns max so far, I have a few games going).
