What video games have you been playing? ΚΔ (24)? More like ΚΔ,Ζ,ΤΞΕ!

BTW @EgonSpengler have you heard about this? A group of new Regions created entirely by a modding community project rather than the gaming studio:
Yeah, that opens up some exciting possibilities, doesn't it? I do watch some of Zack's videos, but I avoided this one, since I didn't want to see any spoilers. I haven't played TLD in a while, but I'll probably fire it up again when the next big update goes live next month.

The way Stellaris handles resource shortages is astonishingly stupid.

Early game I'm running deficits on all resources, pushing alloys for my fleet. If any hit zero, it creates a 6 month penalty that can't be fixed just by buying resources on the market.

Basically it just necessitates ungodly micro with crippling penalties. Having to watch like a hawk just should not be necessary

Baffles me that anyone would think it's good design.

I never bothered with Stellaris. That's not on account of its title sounding really stupid in Greek (where Stella is used as a name, and so is Ares, a homophone to -aris) but due to the typical PI map/interface simply not working with a space game.
Mods where you would have to discover the world (including adjacent provinces to your starting point) did exist already all the way back to EUII. They sucked :)

Stellaris was always one of my favourite Paradox games. The 4X nature of the early game was the best bit in my opinion.

I tried Roots of Pacha the other night and am enjoying its music. I find it amusing that my character Jolandar (yes, Clan of Cave Bear reference) can do with his hand-axe what my character in StarDew Valley needs at least four different tools to do.

Sigh, well if you get the reference, there's nothing strange about the quote.
People who play Paradox games consistently and for years, largely only care about the Byzantine Empire's borders resembling one of the main historic periods, or wish to build Kaiser/Hitler-reich.

That's because you aren't well-suited to Paradox games, being neither a byzantophile nor into Hitler-youth :o

I've spent years helping to develop the Third Odyssey mod. I'm definitely a Byzantophile. :)

I love it, but this early game shortage issue is something that I can already tell is going to potentially ruin it. I don't want to have my every thought be on deficit watching.

I'm fighting a fanatic purifier early game and I've had to load over 8 different times because of shortages. It's not that it is unfixable. I'll just sell some excess alloys and the shortage is alleviated immediately. There effectively IS NO SHORTAGE. But: in new updates, if it hits zero, SIX MONTH PENALTY, even if you proceed to immediately correct it.

It's totally joysucking it for me and it's becoming a bigger issue with more games played. It's a bonehead change that is ruinous to my QoL.

Speaking of ze Germans; I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream was a cool game:

The short story it was based on also is notable, and its writer voices the supercomputer AM, in the game.

Someone doesn't know how to run an economy,).

Fanatic Purifier start you pretty much gave to ficus on survival. Alloys, fleet, Starbases, supremacy tradition.

FP was 7 jumps away on spawn.

Economically, in that situation, running deficits is entirely necessary for everything except alloys. It's Grand Admiral. Otherwise, won't have the numbers, and you're doomed. Deficits ARE good economics in that situation.

The deficits only turned to shortages because I tend not to watch closely, and don't wanna set up auto trades. All I have to trade are alloys, and I might need my stockpile in case of defeat, so selling manually is preferable. I just miss it sometimes because I play on very fast.

I did defeat the FPs. Deduced their loadout from a battle report after provoking contact with 3 ships. Hardcountered it, later defeating 72 of their fighters with 42 of mine, 9(9!) years in game.
