I haven't played league but I hear dota community is much better, though it really depends on how you approach it. If you flame, you'll get flamed, and they have a behavior score to match you with douchebags. Also if you pick support and do your job everyone is nice to you. Picking carry all the time some people will hate you.

I miss dota2, just don't have time to devote to it right now.

Yes, DotA 2 is quite hard to learn, I find. But it's kinda rewarding.

This reminds me… somehow, turn-based games seem to go on far faster than real-time strategy games at times. Do I even make sense?

It makes all the sense. Turn-based doesn't offer the same perception of time, so it feels slower when really it's the same, hence faster than expected.

I was thinking about the time-scale in XCOM 2. In real time, those battles probably happen in less than a few minutes. Those missions where you have 12 turns to grab something and run are probably over in 60-90 seconds. They're basically well-coordinated drive-by shootings.

No, Garry's Mod is on the Source Engine, and has a windowed mode. I'm talking about some random other games from the mid-2000s. Had some weird compatibility issues too.

Yes… also, in real-time games you suddenly get killed and it takes time for respawn, or you wait until your units get somewhere or things get constructed, or whatever… there's no such delay in turn-based games so the action can feel more continuous.
    Exactly.
    Oh.

So this is an absolute tragedy but Far Cry 5 has a DLC that is set on Mars and I couldn't play it for more than 10 minutes. It's the same freaking game only there are tremors-esque monsters that pop out of the dirt if you walk on it so you have to treat it like a FPS platformer. And the radio towers are back. No thanks

I tried the Vietnam DLC too and similarly it was just another lame rehash of the main game.

I bought XCOM 2: War of the Chosen over the weekend, and started a new game. Mixed feelings, so far. They really gilded the lily.
    • I don't know if I love the additions of The Lost and The Chosen so far.
    • Zombies? Really?
    • Boss fights in video games are usually pretty "meh", and sometimes really stink up the place. These are a little different, in that these guys drop into battles I'm already fighting, seemingly randomly. The first time it happened, it took me by surprise and I had to abort the mission and pull my team out (Ironman Mode, ftw). I "killed" two of them after that, without too much trouble. I'm assuming they get tougher and/or more interesting.
    • I love the new maps.
    • I don't quite understand the Soldier Bonds thing yet. It seems a little unnecessary.
    • The special soldiers you get seem a little weak at first, but they seem cool and I'm told they get stronger. The woman with the hood and the rifle got killed pretty quick, but I still have the renegade ADVENT guy and I just got the psionic dude.
    • I like the new ADVENT soldiers. One of the flamethrower guys killed one of my soldiers when he blew up and she was standing too close.
    • I recognized Marina Sirtis, John De Lancie, and Michael Dorn instantly, but it didn't get Jonathan Frakes or Denise Crosby right away. I should've gotten Jake Busey too, his voice is so recognizable, but I didn't.
If I could take just the new maps and ADVENT soldiers into the vanilla game, I might do that.

Any FPS that doesn't offer a chainsaw is not worth playing.

All FPS are a rehash of the same game.
