I still use Firefox. It doesn't seem fast like the old days, but I prefer the look that I'm used to. I hear internet explorer is better now days, but I still prefer not to.

Discuss which browser you prefer (I'm mostly talking about real computers, not ipads and whatnot :) ). Are there any browsers that are more secure (in terms of security) than others?

I'm mainly asking because I have a friend who had computer problems. She may have had some malware associated with internet explorer? I'm no computer expert, but I know the basics. Her IE was out of date anyways, I recommend downloading firefox, and that fixed her computer issues. Are there any other browsers less prone to spyware/malware?

Okay, I'm trying not to miss any, and make a hilariously bad poll. I try to make decent polls, but I usually mess up once. Let me list the choices so I know which ones to put in my poll: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera Browser, Maxthon Browser, Apple Safari. That's the only ones I know of. I'm not going to list different versions. If you use an older version, feel free to specify. Sorry if I missed any, I'll include an other category.

Doh, how did I get in A&E section? I could have swore I was in off-topic. Could a mod move it to the Tavern please.

Why isn't the poll multiple choice?

I regularly use Opera, IE, Safari, Firefox and Chrome, they're all pretty good.

Opera is my primary browser on Windows, Firefox is my primary browser on Mac OS.

Not all of us know the significant strong and weak points of each browser.
We are just casual users.

I use IE9 (please don't hurt me).
Although Firefox and Opera have some interesting elements, I just can't overcome the inertia and familiarity I have with IE.

I prefer Opera, largely because of its keyboard shortcuts and that it's had a lot of now-standard features such as Speed Dial for longer than any of its competitors. Nowadays, I don't think the gap between Opera and the rest is as big as it was in 2008 or so, but I still love the keyboard shortcuts and like underdogs, so I stick with it.

I'm still somewhat instinctively against Internet Explorer, even though I can't deny IE9 is a whole lot less bad than IE8. Microsoft even said one of the signs that the apocalypse was coming was that IE was good nowadays - but since the apocalypse didn't happen, that might mean IE still isn't good. Or that's what years of IE being bad would indicate, at least. There's also the fact that most of the time I use XP, and the best IE for XP is the still-bad IE8.

Supposedly Chrome and IE9 (and presumably 10) have better security, when run on 7 or (I think) Vista because they use sandboxes. I'm not sure how much of a difference this makes in practice, and there are various points in favor of all browsers. I'd still much rather let a person who has some knowledge about safe practices on the Internet use my computer for 2 weeks with Firefox or Opera + XP than have someone who's clueless about viruses, etc. use it for two weeks with Chrome or IE9 + Win7.

I was wondering what this had to do with Arts & Entertainment...

But you didn't vote! No one has voted for IE! Go back, and vote for poor lonely Internet Explorer!

I laboered with Windows Explorer for years. It's such a cranky system - always telling me I can't do this, or I don't have privileges for that. When I recently tried to upgrade to Explorer 9, it was so tedious that I tried Chrome out of sheer exasperation. We've been together ever since. Just shacking-up for now, but I might soon want to commit to a more permanent relationship.:mischief:

The most common HR software suites only run on IE, so that's what I use at work, but at home, I pretty much always use Firefox. It's faster, and IE doesn't load the SBN editor or a lot of the frames very well.

I tried chrome a few weeks ago but didn't like it. using Firefox and it's very useful.

IE10 in Win8 is my primary browser. It, combined with admuncher, provide me with a very pleasant browsing experience.

My HISTORY is solidly Netscape/Mozilla (*), though. The first major cracks in my N/M loyalty appeared when the Mozilla foundation abandoned the suite in favor of the clearly inferior single products of Firefox and Thunderbird. It was at that point that I quit downloading nightlies and dutifully reporting bug crashes. With the discovery of Admuncher (thanks, zelig!), and the incredible advances IE has made lately, I really felt there was no need for my primary browsers to be a non-windows system default. I also have SRWare Iron and Safari loaded as backup browsers in case for some reason a site gives me some fits in IE.

Technically, my N/M loyalty didn't really start until 95. I freely tried out many browsers in 1994 such as IBM WebExplorer in OS/2, Netmanage Chameleon (name??), Mosaic, etc.

Ditto...
Toss in, FF has adblock plus as a free add-on. Very helpful.

I use a North Korean browser, the only one allowed by our Dear Leader. That is I use Red Star OS with Naenara

I began using Firefox shortly after coming here, but switched to Chrome as soon as it was released to the public. I like its streamlined look, but it constantly fights with Shockwave, so sometimes I go back to Firefox.

Chrome at work (that's how I voted), Safari at home.

I like Chrome because, visually, it has a much smaller presence on the screen than other browsers. but to be honest I've been with Chrome since the beta, so my impressions on the visual size of other browsers may be out of date.

I used to use Chrome at home as well, but when Apple upgraded Safari to allow address bar searching, I went back to Safari. I *hated* not being able to search from the address bar.

In terms of extensions, I use Adblock, Ghostery, and ChromeToPhone

I don't think I've had shockwave installed in over half a decade...

Firefox is my primary browser on Mac OS because Opera is crashy on Mac OS, and Firefox does the best approximation of Opera - there's an addon available for single-key tab switching, and it also has an "undo close tab" shortcut.

I use Firefox most of the time, never have any problems. I also have Chrome handy if I want to check something in an alternate browser.

Never used Opera.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Firefox is the sh..
