I was just thinking about this. Does anyone remember that in the original previews for Civ 4 a few years ago there was a decent amount of talk of minor civilizations in the game. These minor civs would never expand past a few cities and had no desire to win the game, just to survive. I think this would have been a pretty cool addition to the game and was wondering what exactly happened to this feature.

Euh... We have Barbarians don't we? Isn't that the same thing?

Like in galactic civilizations II Dark Avatar?
Maybe they realised they small civilizations would get raped and pillaged, buffing warmongers :crazyeye:

This could be done from the system of colonies.

I was thinking the same thing - sounds like colonies to me. Though it would be fun to try to create an overseas empire big enough that granting it independence would give it a reasonable shot at winning...

Sounds like the independent kingdoms from RFC.
Ihr, pardon my :hmm: ignorance; however, what in the Civilized world :scan: -is RFC?

The question which originally brought me to this thread has been, I believe, amply addressed, and although seemed interesting, having read through the replies, I must confess a gentle wave of ambivalence breaking toward the shore of my curiosity, and yet quenched by the fresh water aquaduct built by the noble workers posting here.

;) Thank you all, and kindly enlighten me on your achronym. :hatsoff:

Minor Civs are already in the code though not used in the vanilla game or its expansions. Some MODs especially RFC use them. I think they didn't use them in regular game because of the limit on number of civs in a game and they prefered to have all of available slots filled with competitive civs. I mean if a standard map has you with 6 other civs would you like to have say two of them passive?
