This just made me go... :dubious:

It's like their cultrual border reached an arm out and grabbed the dye (circled in red) away from my city. The next turn their border expanded to fill in the gap, and later my culture in Tenochtitlan grew and got it back, but... :crazyeye:

Sorry i don't. :cringe: I didn't think at the time to get a save, too. I kept playing and the latest autosave i have is 1890AD.
 
Each tile has a percentage of it belonging to a Civ. When borders meet, there will be a fight to grab this percentage. When it is over 50%, the borders will flip and this might happen all too frequently. I think it has to do with the number of cultural points each city near the border generates as well as the number of points it had generated.

In this case it seems like Mecca is pushing the borders to me. Maybe Medina is chipping in but not much judging by the hollow 2 squares between it and Tlaxcala...

I can see you're doing well in your conquest as the Mongols!!
I like meeting Genghis when he says "My horde can beat your horde anytime" :lol:
