Call me naive, but I never understood what the fuss was about drinking alcohol before the sun goes down. The simpsons, entourage, and countless movies give subtle hints that drinking during the day is unfashionable and even taboo. So please enlighten as to why this is. What's the big deal about a martini for lunch?

You have lunch in the morning?

At the time of day I call morning? So what time is it over there in England right now? Btw, do you guys prefer to be called:

England, Britain, or U.K.?

English, British, or UKish?

I call it lunchtime :p

It's 10am here in Britain or the UK. It's also 10am in England, but unless you're referring specifically to England and not the other 20% of Great Britain or the UK, it's probs best to stick with UK and Britain/British/Brits.

If you are getting a pint before lunch, you have issues.

(Or are still going from the night before, inwhichcase you are a student)

And out of liver

If I'm on vacation or it's a celebration day like Cinco de Mayo then i'll drink whenever I feel like it. As long as other people are drinking anyway. I feel worse drinking alone than I do drinking early.

I rarely drink alone. I rarely drink a few. When i do drink, I drink to get drunk (as a few older posters may have witnessed)

People usually drink when they've nothing important left to do in the day, because it interferes with little things like work or driving.
Drinking in the morning means that you have a lot of stamina, and nothing to do.

I couldn't get by without my can of Kestrel in the shower every morning. I don't get these silly taboos either.

This.

Binge drinking gets a bad press, but only because of idiots who do it all the time and deliberately cause trouble. Nearly everyone I know agrees that binge drinking is great, it's the most efficient way!

Drinking in the morning though? Only very rarely have I done that and it just means you get nothing done all day, or at least for several hours. Once you start, you may as well continue.

I only drink with friends. To do otherwise is pointless.

Before noon, bloody marys are the one acceptable drink for gentlemen. Hooligans may think otherwise but I turn up my nose at them.

You're not supposed to drink booze in the morning. But then again you're not supposed to eat late at night either. And apparently you're NEVER supposed to smoke crack. Pff, whatever. So what if after an entire hour of work I wanna unwind with a burger and a crack pipe. If I do that every night does it make me some kind of crackhead?
