What's the difference between Cavalry and Infantry? What's the siege machines bonus against city?

Cavalary has more movement and more strenght than Infantry, and cost SLIGHTLY more.

Is there any specific reason to build Infantry and not cavalry, expect for the 1% of situation where that would take more turns and you need it immediatly? Maybe is something about defending or building fortifications, but there's no tutorial or visual help about this.

Similarly, why are siege machines better than archers against city? Do they get an attack bonus or it's something else? (like damaging units defending in the walls)

i think this infos should be included somewhere in the game, to make it more clear

Cavalry ignores zone of control. That's the only difference I can see. In past versions cavalry couldn't fortify as well as infantry, but if that's the case here it's not apparent.

All ranged units have separate ranged attack and bombardment values. Normal ranged units have lower bombardment values, and siege weapons have higher. See here for a list: https://well-of-souls.com/civ/civ7_units.html#unit_list

The "ignores zone of control" is another "pro" for cavalry.

In Civ V cavalry could not fortify, in Civ VI it could, now I think it can again?

So seriously, I can't find one single reason to build infantry and not cavalry if all of this get confirmed (at least not in the 99% of the cases, and obviously not taking in consideration eventually special units of the Civ).

Yes, cavalry can fortify in Civ7. Though fortify is different, though... it's not a state, it's actual little fortifications that the unit builds in the tile. If you order a unit to fortify, it will build the little entrenchment, and then ask for further orders. You have to then put it on sentry. So they've actually increased micromanagement there. Any unit in a fortified tile gets +6 combat strength when defending. Units can switch tiles and the fortifications remain as long as there's a unit on it.

According to Civilopedia, cavalry also get a strength bonus attacking ranged units, but it's not specific. If infantry has some other benefit, it's not obvious.
