...of which game is better....civ 4...or beyond the sword...which one is better...i havent played beyond the sword in a while...and i havent played civ4 in a really long time...

I would have to say BTS. It gives many more options ands so far the new patch seems to be working well. :)

BTS is best IMO

BTS for multiple reasons. About the only thing I find poor in BTS in the Apostolic Palace. But past that everything is at least as good if not better than Civ 4 Vanilla. Especially with espianage being in.

BtS, I suppose since it does add a lot more features and expands on many ideas of Vanilla but others may argue otherwise...

I doubt many (none yet?) will vote vanilla, especially since we finally got our BTS patch.
The new disable Espionage option is a bit wonky, but I doubt I'll ever use that.

The only way CIV could realistically be improved, would be better AI + Trade + Diplomacy - beyond the expected Graphical/Streamlined UI/general game improvements. BTS is by far one of the best games I've played. I'm sure everyone would have their own personal favs.

In no particular order:
Risk II, Hexen, WarCraft II, Warlords III, CIV IV:BTS, Sacred (RPG), the original Dungeon Siege.
I don't game as much as most, and generally prefer older games that focused more on gameplay (substance) over graphics (candy). Unless Sid really f's up, CIV (or possible successors) will find its way onto any Top Games of All Time (list) for many years to come.

Between vanilla and BTS, BTS.

However, I didn't like Civ4 at all. Combat blows (please bring back separate ratings for offense and defense) and Maintenance is too choking. For a game that refers to your nation as an empire, it's virtually impossible to become one.

heh, that reminds me of the old triremes on civ1... attack strength 1..defence strength 0...i still remember panicking in my first sea battle and fortifying my trireme when it encountered a barbarian ship..classic. you can guess what happened next.
oh and in answer to the question...BTS....ironically enough because of the content that warlords added..combined with the better AI of BTS there is really no comparison.

BTS (3.17) is the best of the official Civilization IV versions in my opinion, simply because of the added features, which work well. I also like the new leaders (trait combinations) of BTS very much. The only very bad change is BTS's regular main menu music, which is much worse than Baba Yetu of Civilization IV, but luckily it's easy to change.
