What's the score with the Stack command?

I've installed the new patch, 1.17, with the express intention of using the new 'Stack Unit' ability. Completely fed up manually moving s**t loads of Mech Infantry and Mod Armour later in the game.

Does this command work and what do I do?

Move all the same type of units onto 1 square and the press 'J' and go to whereever you want.

Don't use this if you have an army in the square. It will move the units in the army, but not the army. Reloading the army then becomes a major hassle.

Reloading, I havefound isn't so much of a hassel as is having a powerfull attacking army, not realizing that it got unloaded, and then attacking and you lose all four times where you most likely would have won if you had you army. The unlaoding armies is nice though when you want to move from cav - tank - modern armor. Why did civ not allow armies to be upgraded. Did the 81st cavalry division always stay with horses? Not the have been upgraded as the years go by.
